I think I need one--I would just freak if something happened--no chance of ice storms this time of year--but I was just wondering who is prepare in case of a major power outage. We all know what kind of investment we have!!!!!!!!!

I have a generator and a battery back up. My return pump from the refugium is plugged into the battery. I have the generator for those times the battery runs out.

I have debated this many times and think I may fork over the money soon since I have started actually buying expensive stuff and proping corals. I think I will be buying one before the next hurricane or winter. Depends on which comes first.

I have a big generator with a big gas tank! I also keep 20 gallons of gas on hand at all times (of course I use that gas constantly on the farm equipment but replace it just as fast). We sit sort of out in the open and have had lightning hit very closeby on so many occasions. We lose power regularly (hence my flooded basement problem last summer) so I thought it prudent to keep one on hand to power the sump pumps and the tanks.

I have a generator and it saved my tanks during the tornadoes we had last month. We were without electricity for 4 days. I ran my 3 tanks, 2 refrigerators, tv, and dvd player...you know, all the essentials for the 4 days and lost nothing...the fish never even knew we had a tornado or a power outage.

I got mine 10,000 watt generator when we had a ice storm here in Kansas last year when the power was out for a week and a half also three battery backups

Yep, got one big enough to keep all the 'essentials' going;)
Hope I never use it but it's there just in case.

thanks for the responses guys I will be getting one
I agree 400$ is cheap compared to the loss of an entire tank
