Was always very interested in the saltwater fish vs fresh water...but never got around to trying my hand at saltwater. Then my lovely wife bought me a 55 gal tank for Christmas Dec. 2000...decided to go reef right away. Once I figured out how to start...well a pocket full of money later and my wife is still paying for that Christmas present!!!!!Now she is convinced that we need a 110-220 gal system to continue our developement. Gotta love that girl!!!!!

I was allways interested in aquariums. One day I just broke down and got a FW tank, After a few years FW got to easy and a little boring so I started a SW. Within a year it was converted to a reef and I was hooked. So I guess I have no one to blam but me. :D

i inherited a freshwater tank and fish from my roomate who converted his 55g to salt, and i slowly ended up with 3 tanks, then started one salt, then 2 salts, then, well, you know the rest.

i scuba dive also, salt water always seems to have more life in it. and tax return always helps buy toys. :D :p

ok when i moved out the first time, i set up a 15 gal freshwater......my idiot roomate threw in like 5 bettas right away, everything died, i was like its my tank, back off......at this time i was in love with the saltwater section, just thought i couldn't do it......then along came a huge tax return, and i thought i'd give it a try so off i went.......and then i moved to a house with way lower rent, and the lighting got upgraded, found this site, set up a sump, then just went nuts i now have my reef, a 125 aggressive cycling and a 200 in planning.....man im gonna be broke......oh yeah my entire savings is almost used up....i hope this is a good investment

A friend gave me an "aquababy" aquarium because she kept killing everything in it. I thought it was cruel to keep them in such a small container so I bought a 10 gallon, then a 50 gallon to keep my fw fish in. Then, the guy at my lfs convinced my husband and I we needed to try salt. We now have a 10 gal sw qt tank, a 37 gal sw tank, and an 80 gal sw tank. We're both hooked AND broke! The lfs is trying to get me and my husband to work for them because we are in there daily and have read so much on fish that we know as much about them as they do! I still like my fw tank but am in LOVE with the sw stuff. I also have a blue and gold macaw, an umbrella cockatoo, two boxers, a cat, and 2 white tree frogs. Oh yeah, can't forget the 2 aquatic frogs that started it all! Thinking about starting a zoo.....

Freshwater as a kid and growing up.
Frehswater as an adult.
Saltwater seemed like a challange - I was getting tired of the same old same old freshwater stuff.
Seeing such beautiful corals and living marine animals at a really nice LFS put it into my head.
Once in the head and a reality - it's hard to even think of not having a reef tank now.

Me and my roommate went to our LFS to look at some FW setups...I had no idea that you could have a saltwater tank..I had always had FW when I was younger...So I decided that I would give saltwater a try and I have been hooked ever since!! BTW my roommate sold his share of the tank...He said it was to much work for him  ...

Someone gave me a 20 gal tank and stuff. Thought: okay, always wanted a tank. Did not consider salt because I thought too expensive - too hard. My roommate and I bought all the stuff for freshwater and did not like our fish choices for a 20 gal... LFS talked me into salt. (Looking back.. a 20 gal? no LR?... hmmmm) Got stuck with an overcrowded tank (bad advice, new, stupidity...) -- lost a fish and it crushed me... bought bigger tank...
Boy is my roommate sorry! (I'm NOT :) )
Anywho... she did not learn her lesson. She found a 3 foot tall birdcage in the trash... AND TOLD ME ABOUT IT lol... two rescued lovebirds later... tee hee.
