Emerald crabs usually don't eat coral, just the algae around it. I would say the pepperments are the culprits/

Check to see if you have a sundial snail. Search this site for a picture. Neat looking snails but are death to polyps. There are also some worms that feast on corals. Google Steve Weast and go to his site and see what he found in his tank. I don't think this against the rules if so Moderators can delete the address, and I apologize. Steve's website address is www.oregonreef.com

my vote is also a sundial. had one in my tank, and lost a colony of blue zoas over the course of a month. they can eat a polyp a night.

Emeralds will DEFINITELY eat corals, especially polyps. If you search this or any site, you'll come up with tons of people who have had their polyps eaten by emeralds. I personally saw mine rip apart and eat a whole rock of yellow polyps. After he ate what he wanted, he ripped the rest out for fun!
They are EVIL little buggers!!!!

yellow polyps aren't corals. they are more like a colonial anemone.

I had these guys tear apart my xiana, and zoos. Def not something i would want in my reef. My emerald crabs never kill my zoos but they do knock them over a bunch. Not some thing i would call an "Evil Bugger", i love mine and have three in a ten.

I guarantee that your emerald crab did not kill your yellow tang. If an emerald ate a yellow tang, the tang was dead or as close to death as you can get.

I have an emerald, a peppermint and yellow polyps. Along with a pulsing xenia, a kenya tree, 3 hermits and over 50 ilyanasa snails. They all behave themselves very well. My hermits might knock one of the frags trying to get to food and the emerald has tipped my kenya over when he's been hiding out underneath it (frag is on top of of kaileni table top so lots of peaks and valleys). Anyway, I love all my critters and hopefully they will never turn on each other or anyone new!

Well, It looks like it WAS the emerald crabs munching my GSP. Caught the little SOB picking at them. I have been giving them extra shrimp and that looks like it is keeping them at bay.
I have my xenias on a little magnetic platform way above the rocks. They are growning great and will I frag them soon. I'm terrified of placing them on the rock display for fear of the Emerald factor.
