.......in they're sump?
Does anyone keep any type of snails or hermit crabs in they're sumps? I'm not talking about a refugium.......just a plain old sump.
Is there too much of a risk of the snails getting into bad places?
There isn't really a huge need for them in there, but I am sure that they could tidy the place up a little bit.
Any thoughts?

my main concern would be that they wouldnt have enough to eat seeing as how most people dont light there sumps so there isnt a whole ot of algae in them

I would suggest "softer" animals. Sponges and ahermatypic corals top my list. Mostly Pseudocorynactis mushrooms and Q-Tip Sponges.
My sump is also populated by Mysid shrimp & Gammarus Amphipods.

I have seen a Stomatella Varia in the sump before, but I haven't seen it in a while and I was thinking about adding a couple of these snails to the sump. I was wondering if they would eat any of the debris that lies at the bottom of the sump or if they are just algae eaters?
How would I get Q-Tip Sponges or Palythosumpotomicdoodadthingymajig mushrooms into my sump?

I put one in my sump...I also keep a 1.5 inch bio-ball in the supply line for the pump...
My sump is lit 24/7 by the same light for the refuge...he keeps the sump pretty clean..there also pods in there as well.

Stomatella can't survive long in a sump. They mostly eat Diatoms.
The Q-Tip sponges will arrive on their own. The Carribean Mushrooms need to be planted there. I use a rock that already had a population of them and they crawled off. If you need such a rock let me know. We can add it to the list of things I owe you.
Nassarius Snail would be a good candidate until it gets caught in the impeller and kills your pump.

That is why a strainer is recommended...or in my case a bio-ball...But then you already knew this.
