Who Still Has A Tank And Livestock?

I got rid of my 29g FOWLR and my 29g gourami/live plant tanks this last week and for the first time in a lot of years no longer have any active aquariums or fish. How many other regulars here no longer keep aquariums AND do you ever intend to get back into the hobby? I am keeping my 125g SW setup and a 55g FW setup. I was going to sell the 125g, but it would be way too expensive to replace for what I would get for it. I may build it into a wall of my new house when it's done this coming year.

Not a bad idea. I might just turn my 125g into an awesome cichlid tank when I get done. They have a 55g at a retirement home in Sierra Vista that is full of mbuna's and it is very pretty. Malawi cichlids are as colorful as most any SW fish and are always active, just fairly small. Fill a tank with them and they are pretty amazing. And with enough filtration, you can keep a bunch like in this picture. I had a few several years ago and talk about a hardy fish.

I might even keep some native fish like catfish and bluegill. Those tanks at Cabelas look pretty neat, too. But I guess to my point, the folks that are no longer in the hobby have probably quit frequenting here.

If I do it I want to get an Arrowana, Clown Knife, Shovel nose catfish and a couple other old standards and see how big they can get.

Took my 75 reef down a little over 3 years ago right before my wife and I had our twins. Dont have the room for one now with the kids stuff all over the place. We're planning on moving soon and I'm hoping I'll have some room in the new house to put a small tank back up.

I tore everything down 3 years ago now. I still jones for it. But I go to the CC aquarium on a regular basis and survive watching that nat geo fish tank show. (it's actually really good so far)
I'll get back in it, after I finish my next degree.
Life is busy. Just no time to play on forums... (besides shooting is fun too)

I sold my reef tank in 2005 intact to a guy who was just getting into the hobby and, except on this forum, I have not been active in the hobby since then. I've thought about setting up again, occasionally look at the new equiptment and tanks that are available now, but haven't set up.
Marine tanks, especially reefs, are quite a commitment so haven't set up. Have even played with doing FW. I wouldn't mind developing a planted tank with limited fish.

Used equipment around here goes dirt cheap. I got a Oceanic 3 sided starfire reef ready 120 with a stand, an orca skimmer, 36" sump and a mag 9 and a bunch of other stuff for 500.00
I will lose my butt when I bail. I've got almost a grand in LED's, Two controllers, Kalk reactor, Biopellet reactor, automated skimmer cup cleaner and collection tank and a automated top off. With all the other stuff I figure even scoring the deal on the tank I had a custom stand and canopy built, bought a different sump and skimmer return pump etc. | got to have over 5 grand into this without adding water. I don't think I could get 2500 back with the livestock and extras I have for it. I am hoping to do a trade with someone instead of selling.

the BIGGEST hindrance was my electric bills. I went from 400 dollar winter bills in an apartment to 150 during the summer, in a house. That is a MAJOR expense...

I know I had more then 3k invested in my tank, and I only got 700 for the whole tank, and my QT.
I never really noticed too big of hike in the power bill, thank goodness. What in the world did you have on your tank that was costing that much in power??

part of it was difference in utilities rates. Actually most of it.
But between the skimmer pump, return pump 4 powerheads and lighting. It was an energy whore...
I went from an 1100 sq ft apt to a 1800 sq ft house and usage went down 25%

I've got my tank, an 8 person hot tub and a pond with a 350 watt pump running and my electric/gas bill has only crossed 300.00 once during the summer when it was really hot. Average winter time bill runs about 200 and in spring and fall the low 100's. Like stinks LOL!

I'm thinking of selling my 180 system and setting up something like a nano reef.
The 180 FOWLR has fallen into a state of neglect and has not lost my interest but it has lost my interest, if you know what I mean.
It would also be nice to try something different...

I will have my tank until it kills me. I can never give it up. It is the only thing left that will calm me. I can sit for hours an watch them with nothing on in the room other than tank lights. My problem is I want to go bigger to 240gal. but I really can't, for many reasons. Would love to have Queens in my tank, Queen Angel and Queen Trigger. Ever time I see them I just Awww.

Still have both my reefs going. One at home, one at work. I would never shut the work one down as my clients, and their kids, have come to expect to see 'Nemo'. Electric bills big. What I have done is add Nothing new,( except lighting upgrade over a year ago), in the last three years.
I have decided not to replace fish as I lose them and will probably go 'all corals' in the future.
My expenses and time dropped tremendously when I finally got the vodka dosing right. Very few water changes.
Not sure I would get back into the hobby if I had a major crash at home.

I love my tanks, BUT...in a way regret having so many.....they consume a lot of my time, and have made it that I can not get away from home :( IF I lived closer to civilization, I think I would get rid of some....BUT ...since I am all alone out here....LOL.....I think I am stuck with all of it.....shipping is WAY too high, and I have a fortune invested in the tanks.
