I can only assume, there are some huge homes being built here, Michael Jordan built his mom a house here, as well as others...there is a 21,000 sq ft ranch being built accross the street from us....our house is what I consider decent, nothing spectacular, 2300 sq feet...I bought it from the bank, it was forclosed on and I got a steal at 292,500...a fixxer upper is gonna run 100 or up...we are getting a lot of chicago people moving here because of reduced taxes, but someones gotta be buying their million dollar houses in IL.

Nice to see someone from our area, i'm from the highland/munster area.
Not sure what part of valpo your from but sounds like you got a good deal.
North side of highland homes are going for about 160k.
We just looked at a couple of places on west side of valpo, by aberdeen (spelling?)
They wanted 300k for 7.2 acres w/a 2800 sq ft home, i wanted it and thought it was a good deal but the wife didnt like the yard, we have kids and it had a 1 acre pond.
any nice lfs in valpo, used to be one in valpo but its been closed down for years.

I thnk most are from people losing jobs, i know a couple of guys that are in IT, they made around 65k a year back in like 2004, lost their jobs due to nipsco outsourcing the IT dept.
Could not find a job after that in our area for IT.
One now works for the town of merrillville for like $18/hr and the other works for a delivery co for like $12/hr, that hits home life hard when you loose half you income, they didnt lose homes but thats a big adjustment to make.
I remember looking in the classifieds in like 2001/2002 and chicago tribune had like 6 pages of IT related jobs, if you look now it down to like 1/4 of a page.
So far I have been lucky, back in 2003 our co cut 1/3 of its staff, luckly i made the cut!
If you call HP after hours or on weekends you get someone from india that cant speak english very well, i think outsourcing oversea's is alot of the problem.
I have a friend that services fire equiptment, like extinguishers, he makes $36/hr but they are afraid they are also going to be fired cause the co has been exporting/importing from oversea's, basically they have been exporting equiptment to like india, having it repaired and sent back on a barge, i guess its cheaper for the co to have them repaired overseas and I guess the shipping is a tax deduction cause its considered a business expense?
The government needs to start taxing the crap out of these oversea's co's, that would stop this crap!

Lincoln is most famous for his roles in preserving the Union and ending slavery in the United States with the Emancipation Proclamation and the Thirteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution and doing all that as he was going thru family problems.

Hey hey...a neighbor! I am located on the North side in Walden...aberdeen is a nice place...There are a few decent lfs, Valpo Pet & Hobby, The Ark, and Aquascapes and Pet Haven. Lemme know if you have any frags to swap, I'm always out in Lake County doing work.

I disagree. I think it's more b/c democrats are worried about more important problems. Like the one's that are within our own borders. The Bush's have always been more worried about Iraq and the middle-east than our economy. If they would be concerned about gas prices, they'd be drilling in alaska right now, but they tried to pass one bill for it, it got thrown out, and that's that. Bush no longer cares much for it b/c 'his people' can afford to pay $100 to fill up a car with Premium.
If there is any president that is like Bush Jr. in my lifetime, I'm moving to Canada.
I hated his dad, and he's even worse.
I do agree with Clinton being a very good leader. When he was president, this country was not in the toilet like it is now. Bush's "tax cut" was only for those with the silver spoons, not for anyone else. I will vote for Hillary Clinton when she runs, since we all know she ran things during Bill's term, I'm hoping she fixes what Bush screwed up.
And don't even get me started on the war, Iraq or even Lebenon, we shouldn't be involved in either. /endrant

The Bush's have held hands with every criminal, dictator, radical, terrorist, there is. I almost threw my coffee cup through the TV when I heard HIM say America is addicted to oil. We maybe but it sure has benifited him and his daddy since this is how they have made all their money. I can't wait till that moron daddy's boy is OUT!!!! Jimmy Carter may not have been a tough guy but what a humanatarian!! And as far as Bill goes if having some on the side made him run things like he did then I will pay for hookers out of my taxes, line um' up around the White House. Lord knows our tax dollars have bought all kinds of things.

Democrats are not very good for the economy. I own a small business. when a democrat is in office, small business suffers. I know gas prices are high, but if you will watch, the economy is still on the rise. I guess all of you bleeding hearts out there don't remember how it felt when the terrorists flew the planes into the trade centers. The war in the middle east is about that. all of those governments support terrorism. With money, and shelter. I can't believe there are still people out there that are so ignorant to the state of the world. The terrorists hate Bush. Wonder why??? because he is kicking their ass. Think about it people. Democrats are wimps. and in my opinion loosers!!!!

i agree with you that republicans are the best friends of business, small and large. if the most important thing to you is saving business owners and shareholders a little money, then you should vote republican.
i'm a small business owner as well and i think it's more important to support education, the environment, healthcare for the poor, and things that will matter to future generations. i'd rather be taxed a little more and put a dent in some of these major social and economic problems that we've created.
i have a friend whose family is rich and i have no problem with him voting republican because it's important to him that his family gets huge tax breaks. seems to me to be a difference of priorities.
sorry to get off topic. i vote for fdr, historically, and obama in 2012.

i have to say our best leader is an unknown one, my newt, herman. yes ur all shocked becuz u merely dont no of his power. 500,000 nuclear warheads lie in my basement awaiting launch while millions of soldiers wait in command. he has actually lead the war on terrorism and was one of the first to signal katrina. he also was the first man on the moon, or was that neil armstrong...anyway my word has been said and will not be repeated! for newtonia!
