Who's built their own stand?

I'm going to build one for my new 75L. Just getting some ideas on what others have done. Did you use 2x4's or 4x4's? If you did it again what would you use? I've got plenty of 2x's, but I went shopping for some 4x's and I couldn't find one that wasn't warped beyond belief. Maybe I'll double them up for the extra support.

I am building a stand as we speak. It is made on a 2 X 4 frame. Then I used 1/4" plywood to cover it and make it look nice. I will post some pics here tomorrow probably. I should be finished by then.
Measurements are 40" long X 20" deep X 30" tall.

Instead of posting pics here, I will post a link to my DIY aquarium stand web page...

Hope this is somewhat helpful.

I't looks great RR; I would have put 2 doors in thr front for easier acess though; it seems that stands like that though, are designed w/ just the one door; must be a reason

I just built a stand for my new 90 gal. tank. I used 3/4" pine. Word of caution, make sure that the surface the tank will rest on is flat and level. I ran into a slight problem with the pine being warped a little(good wood is hard to find). So I used 1/2" mdf with small shims and construction adhesive to make sure the tank would rest perfectly level(mdf rests on pine board the size of tank). I finished the tank off with a textured sand colored paint (american accents) that gives it a nice beach look.($8 bucks a can- 4 cans, 2 cans clear coat) As far as your door opening, you can create a larger opening without compromising support if done right. just like a header over a door or window.

Yes, I am in the process of building the stand to my tank right now. Since no filtration equipment will be housed in it, I am building it fairly open out of steel. 1/8" plate on top and bottom with 35- 1"x1"x2' square tubes running vertical. Painting it flat black, It should turn out pretty nice. After this is done, I gotta do the canopy. Has anyone done the canopy out of metal?

i built my 125g. stand out of SOLID 4x8x16 patio block stacked 4 high on long edge for end supports with 4x4's made into perimeter support, bolted together w/6" s/s lag bolts, then topped off 4x's w/1" #1 grade boards.built for less than 75.00.later added nice 3/4" plywood wraparound w/extra kitchen cabinet doors installed in front cutouts for another $75.00 good luck

CWfish - I don't think I'd do a metal canopy in fear of rust and all that good stuff.

I am almost done building a stand for my 75- made out of nice oak boards, one thing that I did is put very large doors on the front and doors on the sides to allow for easy access to the sump and other stuff that will be in the stand- something that I have never seen on another stand.

My father-in-law built both stands for my tanks(150g & 55g). I honestly believe they could support my house. (He's a general contractor) Made them out of 2by's,1by's and plywood. Only problem with the stands is there is very little room for sumps underneath....That's why I only have a 10g sump on my 150. And an Aquafuge on my 55. Other than that they are beautiful and will last a very long time.

Chocochipper, the metal hood I am building is being powdercoated right now, so it's resistant to scratches, rust, whatever. It's almost impossible to scratch the finish. Can't wait to try it out.
