I originally had 6 heads now 2 heads are all gone!!! All I see is the skeleton of the acan...We took out the peppermint shrimp since I caught them nipping at it...We only have 2 emerald crabs in there currently!! Could it be the emeralds??? Before today the heads that are gone had a hole thru them as if someone was poking at it...
I always thought emerald crabs were reef safe? And the skeleton where the heads are gone will they eventually grow back?

Hmmmm.... That's strange. Have you seen anything nip at it? And emeralds are safe when they're small but once they get big I trade them in for smaller ones. Got a pic of them?

First thing I thought was, "What is your alkalinity?"
Acans do not like swings in dKH.
Sorry to hear about your acans, I remember how pretty they were when you posted pics.

You really need to get your own test kit! You'd be surprised how many times the LFS's tests are inaccurate. The longer your water sits in a container before they test it, the more likely it is to be inaccurate.
Anyways, that film is probably it dying.
Google Interceptor dip for acans (the stuff they use to prevent heartworm in dogs). It's worked for some people, as weird as it is, it seems to work.
I haven't had to try it out first hand yet.

Not to mention that if a LFS tests your water and finds lets say nitrates a little high how all of a sudden if theyre not the most honest(not all of them are) theyll try to have you leaving the store with 5 different denitrifiers they sold you.

HAHAHAHAHA, you sound like you've had Country Critters test your water! LMAO ... every time I see them testing someone's water they ALWAYS tell them they have high nitrates, regardless.

i,m growing acans with great succes.calcium should be 425,alkalinity should be at 10khl,no nitrites and no nitrates.get your water thear and watch them grow.also good light and moderate current thats what i've gotgoing on and all my corals are growing like unwanted weeds.i love the growth rate i have.i had a stag horn grow from a 4inch frag to the size of a basket ball in a yr.
