I bought a sea apple from the store..before buying it I asked lots of questions from sales person about sea apple..I asked him if its harmful to fish..and he said no not at all...then I asked him if its easy to keep..and he said yes..its the most easiest thing to keep. When I came home and put it in the fish tank ...it died and all my fished died because of it....So..what do you think who;s fault is that?

This is a topic that has come up before - are LFS' knowledgeable and out to help genuinely? Or are they just trying to make a buck?
The answer? Somewhere in between IMO...
We have a lot of members here who are either LFS owners or employees, and some people have very strong opinions.
While some LFS are very good, and care about the hobby more than the money, they depend on the money to get by. There are some that are very trustworthy. Unfortunately, there are also some that are not.
My advice? Through experience, I have found that outside research is very important prior to buying anything. Look on the Internet. Read some books. Ask people on this board who have tried and tested various fish and methods. I learn more from this board than anywhere else.
So...your fault or LFS? Maybe some of both. I would not be quite so trusting of your LFS going forward.

well say i can't believe that when someone drives to a store and see something they like they drive back home ask the board there opinion, and waits til the board answers. I asked the board questions this weekend when i first bought the sea apple and noone answered til monday. And i'm sure that while most of u that vote it's my fault are experts and never make any mistakes, I'm sure if we go back to when u were newbies that wouldn't be the case. Everyone start from the begining and whether u do 1000 hours
of research or not u still don't know everything when u start and u still make mistakes, and it's too highbrow to believe that when u become more experienced at this
u should belittle people and say there not being responsible marine aquarists.

Please understand, no one is trying to belittle you. You asked a straightforward question, and are receiving straightforward answers.
No one knows everything. And everyone here avoids the term "expert" like the plague. No one is a true expert, but some have had experiences with certain things that others haven't. Do I value those opinions? Certainly, because they are given through experience.
You tried to do the right thing. That's why I said there was blame on both sides. But you live and you learn. Chalk this one up to experience.
There have been many people who have had very negative experiences with LFS staff who portrayed themselves as knowledgeable, and who turned out not to be. Now, that is not always the case. But unfortunately, those are the situations people remember. So, it brings out a little emotion with people.

I asked what u should do to clean up after the sea apple and I got 100's of different answers from people on this board other internet sites my local fish store, and there were 30 different answers, so which would be the ideal out of those answers.
it was our fault buying the sea apple, but more blame has to be on the fish store that tells a person that something was ok to do when it wasn't. Why should The local fish store be held to a lower standard. If u go onto this websiet or livaquaria, or any other website that sells fish, and the fish is poisonious the website tells u that.

You have two simultaneous posts going on about this, and you are posting the same thing to both. Let's keep it to the reef forum, which is where it seems more are reading your post.

yeah and that's exactly what the lfs should have said...
even though i know that alot of the time this is not the case, i don't think it's her fault because she trusted the advice of someone who should know what they are selling.

I think that it is about doing all of the research that you can and don't just take the opinions of people on the net or the LFS. This is a wonderful site but you should do some reading before you buy anything. This is an expesive hobby and you will throw money away if you do not educate yourself. LFSs hire some very knowledgeable staff and some that are just there because it's a cool place to work. You should ask the sales people if they have had any experience with the items you are wanting to purchase. This is not a hobby for everyone so you need to research.
