Well if you follow Apples trend, just wait a month after their release and they'll slash the price to 100 or so.

I will be! I will!

Browsing the web on my Att&t 8525 is okay, but nothing at all like an Iphone. This will be my first Apple product. Are the 8gb and the 16gb exactly the same except for hd space?

Yes. That is correct.
I may pick one up. The only thing holding me back is that capacity of 16gigs. Toshiba is producing 32 gig flash drive so the technology is there.
Decisions....... decisions.......................

What do you guys do with that space? Music and videos, mostly I would assume? Like most of your digital collection? I just have some ringtones/music and some pictures/vid from the camera on the 2gb micro SD on my 8525. My car radio has an aux port for USBs, so just been using that with flash drives instead of getting an iPod.
The only thing I wish the new Iphone had was a better camera. Only 2mp still? The average camera phone in Japan is 5mp with some pushing over 8mp. Crazy...

My current ipod has 17 and a half gigs of music on it. I have tunes from back in the napster days on there. I dont just want to put some of my music on there. I want my full library so I wont need my ipod. Not to mention the photos.........

Yep. AT&T will be the exclusive carrier. The only problem I'll have with the new 3G is AT&T and Apple announced today that you will not be able to just go in and buy a 3G phone and put your current AT&T SIM into it. You have to actually activate it in the store with a new contract.
Considering I have the 'old' Iphone (old as in less than 1 year
), and I have it 'jailbroke' running multiple applications, I see no reason to change. A friend just sent me a link to a ComputerWorld article that showed the pros and cons of going to the new 3G from the original Iphone. Biggest benefits with the new model are the 3G network (wi-fi speeds, faster downloads, more accessible network), GPS ( you can supposedly track down friends and family members seeing exactly where they are with the built-in GPS feature), and a longer battery life.

I might.. I currently have the Motorola RAZR V3i, and it crapped out (got soaked)
I wanted to scream, I loved that phone. It was only out for 3 months, so I cannot get another. It had iTunes! (NOOOOOO, My Music!!!!). I can still call.. my iTunes stills works,.. but my SIM card is shot, and the screens are black.

so, I'm thinking about it..

They also consider them PDA's and will not allow you to purchase insurance for it.
My friend/boss got one, had it for about 2 weeks and dropped it on gravel. It shattered the screen and when he took it, to replace it, they told him they don't allow insurance on them and he'd have to buy another, at retail price.

199 for the 8 gig, and 299 for the 16 gig (it comes in black or white). That makes paying 400 for the original 8 gig Iphone even harder to bear.

So I can get rid of the crappy phone I have and get the 8 gig for 199.99 and not pay any additional fees? (Please excuse my stupidity. I am not too phone savvy).

i love my iPhone but im hoping that a few basic things will be avalable thru the new App Store like MMS, video, and cut/paste. or ill just wait for someone to jailbreak the new version usually only takes a few weeks after its released.

you need to get a new AT&T contract but the cheapest one is like $65 and thats with unlimited web which is pretty sweet. many times i view and post on here from my iPhone

you can purchase apple care for any apple product and its protects you from pretty much everything except water damage

The new iphones may be starting at $199, but they raised the rate plans by $10. Since it is a 2 year contract you are actually paying an additional $240 for the duration of the contract.

I am probably going to be switching from Verizon to ATT for the new iPhone. I just got a Voyager last week and always wanted an iphone but there is no way i would pay 400.
So as long as the return policy is correct that i got 15days to return it and then my contract will still end on July 14th i am getting it.
My one question. I see it has turn by turn GPS directions. is this built into the phone like a normal GPS unit or is this a service thats need to be paid for. I was going to get a Garmin Nuvi 205w but this new iPhone looks to be an all in one and I wont need the garmin

I imagine they'll have it jailbroke by July 12th. The problem is, they announced you can't just walk in and buy the phone without a contract. So even if you did get it to work with another SIM (AT&T or T-Mobile), you're still stuck with the 2 year contract you signed up for when you bought the 3G phone. They also stated there would be severe penalties for cancelling the contract the first 30 days, and other large penalties for dropping the 2 year contract. I'm also wondering how the current apps will run on the 2.0 firmware. Have a sneaking feeling Apple has done something to the OS with the 2.0 firmware that's gonna cause problems with these 'free' apps you can get right now. They'll only want you to have apps from Itunes (which you pay for). Wanna bet they put some software on the phone that does an inventory of the directories that contain the apps, and send them back to the Mother Ship?
