"So I can get rid of the crappy phone I have and get the 8 gig for 199.99 and not pay any additional fees? (Please excuse my stupidity. I am not too phone savvy)."
you need to get a new AT&T contract but the cheapest one is like $65 and thats with unlimited web which is pretty sweet. many times i view and post on here from my iPhone
"They also consider them PDA's and will not allow you to purchase insurance for it.
My friend/boss got one, had it for about 2 weeks and dropped it on gravel. It shattered the screen and when he took it, to replace it, they told him they don't allow insurance on them and he'd have to buy another, at retail price."
you can purchase apple care for any apple product and its protects you from pretty much everything except water damage
I imagine they'll have it jailbroke by July 12th. The problem is, they announced you can't just walk in and buy the phone without a contract. So even if you did get it to work with another SIM (AT&T or T-Mobile), you're still stuck with the 2 year contract you signed up for when you bought the 3G phone. They also stated there would be severe penalties for cancelling the contract the first 30 days, and other large penalties for dropping the 2 year contract. I'm also wondering how the current apps will run on the 2.0 firmware. Have a sneaking feeling Apple has done something to the OS with the 2.0 firmware that's gonna cause problems with these 'free' apps you can get right now. They'll only want you to have apps from Itunes (which you pay for). Wanna bet they put some software on the phone that does an inventory of the directories that contain the apps, and send them back to the Mother Ship?
