Who's house is going down first???

So here is the story on the apartment complex I live in:
It was hastily built on an old landfill. There are vents all over the place to vent the gases from the decomposing matter. I have had to move from one apartment due to ground shifting. You could visibly see the floor caving in. Also, there have been several areas in the open where the ground shifts and holes open up. I have sprained my ankle three times walking my dog and tripping on a hole. The complex also butts up against a lake and you can see the land eroding into the lake.
Today, I go out to my car and noticed a river running down the parking lot. A water main broke and was gushing water. I saw a sink hole forming. This is happening at the end of my building.

That's an awful long time to wait with the issues you have already mentioned I'd be a little nervous there

I know, but I have to save up to get a new place. I did look at my renter's insurance and I will be covered if anything happens. At least with the new apartment, the floor is level. In my last apartment, I had a 16 gallon tank that was level was I set it up. Then, over time it began to lean forward.

Probably time to move on. Buddy of mine lives in a apartment building that's being plagued with similar problems, being right on the bay the land on the backside (where buddy lives) of the building is eroding away and the structure is literally starting to drop. Foundation and brick siding, cracked. Doors become hard to open and close, cracks open up in the ceilings and walls. Once that stuff starts happening it never gets better from there. Buildings become plagued with plumbing problems like main drains cracked causing regular back ups in the units and water supply lines leaking into the structure. Most investors aren't trying to spend the big bucks and get everything fixed the right way. Even if you do try fix a foundation by jacking it up and re supporting one, buildings are never really the same again and you are still plagued with these issues.
I'd move on before it really gets bad, fo sho.

I forgot some part of the whole scenario. I think a lot of the problems are due to the rain. We have been receiving a ton lately. Also, I noticed chalk outlining the drain paths when I drove into the complex today. It seemed to go near where the storm drains are. Obviously, there is something going on in this complex.
Technically, I can get out of my lease right now. The office lost the signed lease and is charging an extra $100 bucks for each month they don't have a signed lease. However, I did call them and tell them off about how irresponsible they are. Last year, they lost the rent check for my dog (long story they owed me a free month's rent but charged my dog to live there).

Wow living on a landfill. Never in a million years would I do that. Forget the sinkholes; what about the toxic contamination?

Gemmy You need to Get the HELL out of there. Sorry but when a Geologist says I am not in danger and needs to do a 6 month Survey to see how much movement there is to see how bad the Movement was. See they have the Survery from before the Sewer was installed but they need to do another to check the Height again. He could see that it was but was like it was not that bad here. All he was like Seen worse but keep an eye on it. Also I get to have 30 foot long poles Hammered into my yard to measure the movement of the ground. They are also going to measure the house for Tilt and such. He was like just monitor and let us know if it does worse.
Yours on the other hand has Eroison Sinkholes and other issues that I would be letting MY HOUSE go into FORECLOSURE OVER. That tell you anything.

Wow...stop paying rent, forget about saving up and get out. Take pictures of the mess to prove your case if they take you to small claims for the rent money. Next June...no way.

Just leave. If they are trying to charge you extra money they are asserting you have no lease so scram.

If you can break your lease... Get out while you can. Apartments are a dime a dozen. I am sure you can find something. That being said. I HATE moving. Be careful.

It was one of those things that I found out after I moved to the complex. I'm trying to come up with a game plan to move.
I'm going to take some pics of how the complex is laid out and some of the areas that I have noticed as having "issues".

I'm not sure how it works in Krista's neck of the woods. But here in Texas, she'd still be required to pay her rent. And if she didn't then they would just rack up huge fees and it would all go on her rental history that would probably just cause her problems anywhere else that she goes to try and rent from. Each state has their own set of rules for rental situations that protect both parties. Here in Texas, if someone doesn't pay then a property owner is able to file eviction on you in just 7 days and give you either a 24 hour or 3 day notice to vacate or else they're coming in. If I remember right. in Michigan, it takes almost 6 months to evict a tenant. Don't wanna see Krista get evicted. Especially if she isn't ready to move.
If she fought with them hard enough I'm sure she could get out of her lease early though. Once they know you're documenting things and filing complaints or even threaten them with a lil legal action most will want to get you out of there as soon as possible. Property owners don't typically want that kind of attention.

They are charging her extra each month because they claim there is no lease so that shouldn't be a consideration. Even if they were to find the signed lease they are in violation by charging her the extra 100.00 in rent plus the unsafe conditions. And if they did mess with her she could turn around and counter sue for injuries from the holes she's tripped in. I don't see them taking this to court.
