Why are some of these fish so expensive?

A dog costs $300 - 1000's depending on the breed and they live 8-15yrs. Some SW fish live 20+yrs.
I don't understand the big price on fish problem.

He makes no sense. His Cobra has a 500HP and his motor could blow anyday.

IMO; Price is a good guide for beginers. Most of the hartier fish are also the cheaper fish. Most of the expensive fish require special care. Compatability is always a problem unless you do your research and sometimes even then. Don T.

That does it, the more I think about it, the more I'm determined to drive the 5 hours to Puerto Penasco and get one. ICE has no right to stop us from bringing these fish in. Heck, maybe I'll bring a bunch if I can find them.
Let me stop you right there Mantis. Clarions are protected by the Mexican government and ALL of them require a license to import to the US or any other country for that matter.
You can not remove them legally without a proper permit and if you do there are serious consiquenses. There was an article about people trying to do this a couple of years back and they got federal charges pressed and went to jail.
Importing fish that require legal licenses illegally is a HUGE no no.
Now...if you want to go farther out to sea and down south a little more, you can import clippertons. These are fair game. All you need to do is boat out 4.5 days from the nearest port, swim with the tiger sharks, hammerheads, maco, and other reef sharks and you will be rich.
Good luck

The higher the price of the fish the more attached you are to it. The most expensive fish I have is my dwarf flame angel at 50 bucks. Im equally attached to my clownfish, dwarf flame, and my flame hawkfish. I also have blue chromis at 3 dollars each. I really dont care if I lose a chromis but I would really care if i lost any other fish

It's only illegal if you get caught. Why would I do that when there are dozens of the 50 yards out from shore in Puerto Penasco? Methinks I smell the fragrance of superiority. "Let the masses have damsels".

Some of us actually care about our great-grandchildren being able to see these fish....That's why they are protected

They aren't endangered or threatened. I can't find the NatGeo story right now, but they are thought to be in the millions. I will find and post it. Also, if you or I went fishing in the Gulf of California, we could catch and eat them. There is no restriction on consumption, just export. I guess you'd be better with me going there and roasting a few. See the above post for the definition of "knee-jerk".

theres a reason as to why these fish are in the millions! everything on the endangered species list was on this earth in large populations before we found a reason to hunt them down for some coin, and more often than not, not for food. see the above post for the definition of "self fulfilling", see also "irresponsible".

You just have to find a breeder or a whole saler. We did and now we can get a $1500 puffer for $150. And a $200 trigger for $20. Most these aquarium stores buy from whole salers anyways then they double or triple the price to make the money they need to keep thier store running.

p.s. I think she wore that skirt ONCE, but we danced many a night away listening to tunes...
hahah, cassette deck? you might have just aged yourself there!

I have been to Mexico; Your worst nightmare is to end up in a Mexican jail. The law is whatever the police officer decides, The punishment is whatever the Judge decides, The fine is what is in your wallet , If that is not enough you go to jail untill your relatives come up with enough money.
No; I have not been in a Mexican jail but I worked for a company that had a plant in Mexico and saw their justice system first hand. Don T.
