I cannot keep zoas alive. Maybe its just the crap quality of the LFS i get them at (i have a few frags that are doing good) but even when i get them the day they come in and dip them, scour for predators and make sure their healthy, they never open up and eventually die off. All my other corals are fine... Hammers, frogspawn, ricordias, shrooms, and the zoa frags, but never the nice, big peices of zoa colonies i buy :( Any clues as to what may be causing this or links to different treatments for new zoas?

:ninja: oh its on
Im gonna try putting the new zoas in the farthest, most indirect light path. It might be a shock to go from 32w PC to 150w HQI >.>
but that wouldnt explain why they died under my old pc lights :(

The LFS has them under 32 watt PC?
Maybe put them on the sand bed for a week or two, and check at night and see if your amphipods are eating them

So, the best place to keep zoas is on the bottom of the tank? Right on the sand or higher?

I think it varies from one zoa type to another. I've noticed that my blue zoas actually brown out in high light, so I have them on my sandbed where they color up nicely. My zoas with a lot of red and orange (especially the 'armor' ones) seem to really like being higher up in my tank. In fact, they'll stretch up their stalks if I place them on my sandbed.

If you get zoas from the store wait a few days after they come in to buy them. What are you dipping them in? Zoas really aren't as easy to keep as you would think. I've had colonies that were doing great for about 6 months and then out of the blue just die overnight.
