Why carry a gun?

This story should make it apparent to everyone that we need strict assault knife controls if not an outright ban.

It was a kitchen knife. No need to ban assault knifes. We do need stricter controls however on who can purchase a knife.

How about we ban all guns, all knives, all drugs, and while we are at it, lets get doen to the nitty gritty. No fingernail clippers, no nail files, no tazers, no mace. Because they might hurt someone.
If we go that far, why doesnt the government ban fast food, table salt, pesticide, food preservatives, Alcohol, cigerettes, cigars, and anything else that could be harmful to the general publics health?
As a side note: never bring a knife to a gun fight.

But can we still masturbate?

No. I'm sure the government would find some reason to ban that too. Afterall, it causes blindness, stupidity and hairy palms and if you don't confess you go to Hell... So, yeah, that too.

GORY DAYS, GLORY DAYS! MANTIS FINALLY GOT TO USE HIS GUN FOR SOMETHING BESIDES A DOORSTOP!
For every success story, there's hundreds of other that show where someone used a gun to kill someone for whatever reason. Glad the guy was apprehended. It's a shame he only got to stick TWO people before the good ole boy with his pea shooter was able to talk him into dropping the knife. Just imagine what would've happened if he'd had an AR with a 30-round clip instead. You think Braveheart would've pulled his gun then with the guy spraying the store with bullets? I vision DUCK AND COVER!

A smart person would take cover first, yes. :)
That is the ultimate question, why? For a responsible person who has a legitimate reason to carry, I understand. But the big issue is that some guns are always going to end up in the hands of some people that aren't going to carry, own or provide secured access to them, responsibly. Open access to deadly weapons can be a temptation that if were not present in certain situations, to certain people at key moments in time then the possibility of limiting innocent casualties over the years could be substantial.
But then you hear about things like this and wonder how or why should guns be allowed? http://www2.nbc26.tv/news/2012/mar/27/accidental-shooting-child-brings-neighborhood-toge-ar-3492809/
It is what it is. If they guy didn't have a knife then he coulda had a bat. So let's ban baseball too, while we're at it.

Someone showing a gun to fend off a would be attacker isn't news, even if the gun owner reports the incident which doesn't happen in a lot of cases.

That reminds me of an incident some years ago. While sitting in my truck, a punk came walking towards me with a club, slapping it into his free hand as if he intended to whip my ass. I smiled broadly and made a show of reaching under my seat...he got the message, turned around and left.
There was nothing under my seat.

Sometimes a good bluff is good but... A buddy had a guy try to start some crap at a red light. When the guy started walking back toward his car he sat his P89 on the dashboard. The attacker says "Oh so you are going to shoot me?" Buddy calmly answers "yes, if need be" Would be attacker got back into his car and left. Another instance a clown pulled a gun on my cousin in a traffic jam on the freeway. My cousin always carried a 44 mag under the seat. He whipped it out and pointed it at the guy who damn near wrecked his car from slamming on the breaks and they weren't going but about 20 LOL! I had the occasion to just show my 1911 when a car load of gang bangers took exception to some artwork I had on my car making fun of the Chicago Bulls when they played the Suns in the finals. In my cousin's case the grease bag who flashed the gun on him probably wasn't going to do anything BUT you never really know. In my case the bangers were being pretty aggressive. That was the only time in over 20 years of carrying in the car I ever even thought about pulling out the gun so it isn't like I fly off half cocked on it.
In all 3 cases we didn't report it to the cops. Not worth the hassle.

Well, I like my little S&W .38 snub revolver. Shoots every time. No hang ups, no hammer to catch in your cloths... Yeah, it might not look bad a$$, but it does the job.

I carry a satin finished SS 45 auto. It's really easy to see that big hole in the end of it. Leaves no doubt that it's a real gun.

Thought about one of them when they came out but the sensation of bills leaving my wallet every time I pulled the trigger was too much. I have a 480 Ruger I got a deal on, I need to get a lever gun in 480 to pair up with it. Also need a BFG in 45/70 to match the Marlin lever gun. I have a model 94 and a Golden Boy in 45 colt to pair my Vaquero 45 and a Marlin octagon barrel 44 mag lever gun to pair my 44 mag but that monster is a 10" stainless beast that doesn't exactly scream cowboy LOL! I need to dig up a vaquero in 44. Then I need a 357 lever gun and I'll be set. Assault rifles are fun to shoot but nothing is as cool as lever guns.
This is the 357 I need to pair the rifle with except mine is the 5 1/2 inch. I don't think it's ever going to be worth much more than I paid for it and how many people shoot cold commemoratives LOL!

I have a Rossi .38 saturday night special beside my bed like Snakes S&W.
One of my close friends just got a Springfield 1911 that is awesome. Cost him about a grand with all the extras.
I would love to get a .500 mag, but it really isnt practical. I will one day get a Dirty Harry with about a 9 inch barrell, just because I like the look. lol
My stepdad got an H&K .57 just before he passed. Very impressive piece but my stepbrother now has it.

I just sold one of those Rossi 38's in Stainless. Very nice little gun but a friend wanted a 38 revolver to teach his son how to shoot with and made me a good offer.

Mine is the only handgun I have unlocked in my house. Very reliable for short distance.
My pride and joy is my anschutz 1913 I shot in high school competition with a cherry stock and stainless barrel.
