Why did my sea stars die?

I've lost 2 stars & i can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. Can anyone give me an idea of what the problem miht be here? I always do the recommended 3 hour acclimation with slow drip. The first was a General and the 2nd a Red Armore. They were fine during acclimation, but once i put them in the tank they collapsed within 24 hours. Here are my water perimeters: ammonia is-0, Nitrite-0, Nitrate-0, PH-8.0, and Salinity is 1.024.
My water temp is 78. I've had a Tiger Serpent Star for about 2 mos. and it's been fine. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!:notsure:

Sorry for your loss. I was told to do a 6 to 8 hr drip. Something about the stars having a hard time adjusting their osmosis ability that if it is not perfect they the either blow up with to much water or implode because they loose to much water back into the tank. The statemant was to take a 5 gallon pail plaicng the star with his water from the lfs no more than a gallon and let the drip begin. It should take 8 hrs to fill the 5 gallon pail and when that happen the critter is ready for his or her new home.
Good Luck:jumping: :jumping: :jumping: :jumping: :jumping:

But these stars really do not need an acclimation of that length. They are far tougher than Linckia types stars. Can you describe the manner of death? Did they disintegrate? How old is your tank and what fish do you have? What other inverts do you have? Have you ever used copper or other medication in the tank? Where the stars from the same supplier? How long did they have them before you bought them, if you have any idea...

they both started to disintegrate and then they imploded, i did use copper in the main tank 3 years ago when i could not get rid of a ich problem but have not used it since then my tank is about 3 years and 4 months old i have tiger serpant star that is in very good health no problems did the same acclimation with him, i also have about 50 plus snails that i have had for about 3 months have not seen any them dead, fish are, a maroon clown 2 1/2 in, a damsel 4 in, yellow tang 4 1/2 in, hippo tang 5 1/2 in, koran angel 4 1/2 in, none of them botherd the star they would swim past the star i got them from the same lfs that i always go to, they had them for about a week in a half, hpoe this helps!!

That is just an extremely rapid death for those beasts. Normally it takes a few days and they slowly disintegrate. I hate to say, I'm not entirely sure what is up with that! The two seastars are pretty close relatives, it wouldn't surprise me, necessarily, that the brittle is OK...but I am rather shocked that they both died so quickly. :notsure: I am assuming nothing crazy happened, like you took them out during acclimation and tossed them around for awhile, allowing them to dry out for a few minutes (actually it would probably take longer) and then put them in.
Is there are really big salinity difference between your tank that the LFS tanks?

I can only think of a couple things... starfish are very sensitive and need to be acclimated for a while.. also the closer the salinity between the lfs and your water the better... also I have heard when you put starfish in your tank you should put them in upside down.. I"m not sure why though I forgot:notsure:
