Why do feather dusters...

I don't mean when they pull their crowns in; I mean when they actually seal the opening to their tube and don't come out for days.

Mine threw it's crown and then sealed the openning. About 4 days later is open and some small feathers showed. they get longer everyday. Maybe they seal up like that so they can get ready and start a new feather.

I have one that does it when he hasn't thrown his crown though.

My feather duster has done the same thing....I'd like to see the reason why too. Has yours done this before?

Yes, I have several dusters and they have all done it at one time or another.

Its very simple. Its like molting, when there old crown gets too clogged/damaged/old then it drops it off then closes its tunnel so it can be protected until it grows a new crown

i have a feather duster that threw his crown and then the worm crawled out so far that part of him just broke off anyone ever seen this or had it happen ?
