Why do fish pace the glass?

My foxface spends his day running the front glass. It drives me nuts!!! I have had him for two years and most of the time he is glass running. What, if anything causes a fish to do that? He is the only one in my tank that does it.

If anyone can figure out why fish pick up certain habits---fame & fortune await you!

i always guessed it was to get out, swim more, not happy
its seems to be more common in new fish. my pacers stop after several months and just chill out

The new fish I just put in quarantine just spent 1 day darting back and forth at glass. I'm guessing he could see his reflection.

I have a yellow tang that acts like he is chasing away another tang. He will be swiming and looks over and sees his reflection( I guess ) and darts over to defend his corner. This tang is nuts for his corner.

A 75 gallon is small compared to the ocean. Think if you were in a small prison cell you might pace back and forth too. Lesley

my clown likes to do it to but gets tired and gets pushed back
