Why do Fish Spit Food Out Sometimes

Well why? I see them sometimes go after the food, take it in their mouth, then just spit it back out. Is that their way of saying "we don't like this, you can keep it and shove it?"

My fish only spit out the food that was on sale. AKA the cheap food. haha
It is like they are tasting the food, and they decide they don't like it, so they spit it out. Good question, I would like to know the real answer. Hmm...

Maybe they like to spit and not swallow. J/K that was bad
By the way, what would happen if I fed caviar to my fish?

I have smaller community fish and they will sometimes spit back out bigger pieces until they break apart and are easier for swallowing.

Same here, my clowns will spit and bite big pieces until they are small enough for them.
