Why do you do aggressive?

I was just sitting here thinking about why I have aggressive fish as opposed to a reef or ever a fish only angel tank or something. I do it because I like seeing natures fittest doing what they do best, ripping goldfish apart! Really I just love sharks and this is the closest I could get to one.

IMO, their personalities are unparalleled with other fishes.

Oh jeez, not that again ;) .
I also think aggressives are prettier - compare just about any species of trigger to a non aggressive fish - they just don't compare!

Yes fish are pets when you spend SEVERAL thousand dollars on them. A good dog or cat costs just as much...
I think some of the larger fish are very cool. A stingray would be nice to have. They look best in that 200 gallon or larger tank.
I personally like the mini fish though since they can swim through the crevices in rocks.

Hey Reeferdude, I use to be in the same boat. But just a bit of advice, I would try to lay off the feeder golfish. They are not good for saltwater fish, I know its cool to watch but goldfish generally carry parasites and deseases in wich can harm your fish in the long run, I found out the hard way. I would try to lean them over to feeding frozen squid!

Ya I only feed goldfish as a treat and I am trying to "train" my shark to hunt like they would learn to in the wild. Most of the time I feed my shark, triggers and eel frozen squid out of my hand.

I remember the first time I saw a puffer in the LFS. He stared right back at me. His spotted fins fluttered... almost like a butterfly. He followed me around the tank and I was hooked.
I LOVE the personality that most of the puffers have. To me it doesn't matter if they are agressive or not. You have to love a fish with that much personality, that will "beg" for food, and sometimes even to tricks for you!. :)

For me it has nothing to do with the whole "predator style/aggressive" tank... I love the look of leopard sharks so thats what I got.. its all about personal preference.. not watching fish tear other fish up....

I like the aggresive tanks. There seem to more activity in my aggressive tank than my passive. I have a 125 with a 6" niger , 4.5" butter hamlet , 6" fuzzy dwarf lion and a 24" snowflake . Peole who see the tank tell me it looks empty , but the trigger is always cruising. He checks the nooks and crannies of the rock and he will even burrow under them some times, till the snowfalke chases him out :) The hamlet cruises the top and mid section of tank and the lion ... well he is a lionfish, he just likes to lounge around till there is a piece food to chase across the tank that is getting blown by the power head. The snowflake is the baby I feed him hunks of shrimp or clam on a screwer. Though the niger or the hamlet sometimes ends up with it regardless :p But there always movement ,always fun to sit back and loose myself looking at them swimming around. Though that happens on my passive tank as well. Isn't that why i set them up in the first place ?? heheh:)
