Had the exact same problem with my office tank. I just used another HK2 and played with the angle til I got it right. Once you get the flow across the sand exactly, it will go away very quickly.

i added the hk over night and after 24 hours it still looks just s bad when i came home. like i said it goes away almost totally at night while lights are off. so im going to replace bulbs.
someone above mentioned the spectrum of the bulbs shifting towards a red..

i am going to take all the cyano out manually and add the hk again tonight and let it work throughout the day tomorrow and it comes back full charge then im swapping bulbs..
i find it odd thought that bulbs can actually help produce an organism.. cyano bacteria!

who knows, ill give it a shot

Sucks... After you replace your lights, why not try shortening your light cycle and leaving your tank on a longer darkness schedule for a while. Might just kick the problem once and for all... Although it could hurt the other inhabitants...

no,

the cyano seems to dissappear when the lights are offf. also is does not seem to be as bas with just the actinic lighthing one. the actinic lights are the newest of the bulbs. some are about 4 months and other closer to one year.
so i bought new bulbs online, and hopefully i can get some luck.

That is exactly how my problem was. That is why I started to cover my tank at night. Since then, no issues. And my bulbs are not that old at all. So I knew, for me, that it couldn't be my bulbs.
Good luck, keep us posted.

yeah, ill have to try the towel technique as well. ill cover the windows. my tanks is to big for sheets/towels/blankets

bulbs should be here by the end of the week. my sps hates me right now, actinics have been on 2 days straight trying to keep the cyano to a minimum.

lol just get some inexpensive curtains and draw them at night lol. Go to some place like ross or home goods. I am sure you can find something like a tan or navy or something neutral and boyish looking. hehe
