I have a 110 gallon fowlr and i have a 3 inch porcupine puffer that lives in it by itself. I had a dogface puufer for 3 years and he died 3 weeks ago, so i bought another one and he died last night. A niger trigger has died and a emperor angel that has died in the last month!!
the water checks out fine and the salinity is fine. The porcupine puffer never gets sick and is very active. What is going on?

Hiya,
Could it be that the current puffer is terrorizing the other fish and they're dying of stress?

He is a very social fish until feeding time. The 2nd dog face that I bought was doing ok until the first feeding. He went down hill quick from there. He died with in 3 days.

I lost 3 fish that were new additions and I had the dogface for almost 3 years.
The PH was ok and the salinity was ok as well. I checked everything and then I had the lfs check it as well.

I hate to harp on the alkalinity, but it may not be checked often in FO tanks. And at times the pH can look OK even if alk is low. If low, adding new fish can "tank" the pH - often overnight, to fatally low levels. The "old" fish may survive it, but the new one's often fall victim. Just something to rule out...not a common problem, but I've seen it. Were the new additions added at once? What is your typical water change schedule?

They were not added at one time. One would die and then a week or so later I will replace it with another fish.
The alkalinity may be the problem. I will watch that more closely.

I don't know, it is a strange thing. Alkalinity issues usually arise in tanks with few water changes for months on end. Otherwise, that is a tough problem to figure out. :(

I had a similar problem once and it drove me nuts. I checked with an icthyologist and he suggested a product called Revive by fish-vet. It's reef safe and it worked. Haven't had a fatality since. It's avaable at Pet Solutions.
