Why does my clown do this?

Ok everyone, my cinnamon clown has developed a wierd habit. Every so often he swims to the bottom of the tank, sorta smells? the bottom and then turns around and stirs the sand up with his tail sending sand everywhere! Then he swims away? I have been home for a week and noticed him doing this yesterday. I have never seen him do this before now(He has been in the tank about 3 months). Can anyone enlighten me as to why he may be doing this?

What coral do you have at the spot he is moving the sand around?
My clowns do this to keep the area clean around my anemones.

That's just it, he does this in several places and it is never near a coral. I am stumped and starting to think he is just 'gifted' if you know what I mean.

other damsels will do this as well for various reasons like territory or strutting
