why doesn't swf.com ship to canada?

Probably has something to do with the cost and customs.
Don't know for sure though.

Its VERY difficult to send/bring living things across borders. Living things that cross internationla boundaries have to be quarentined for a period of time before they can be released. This would surely kill anything that is shipped.
not sure about the drygoods though.

I would love to get some of the things from here! There is so much more variety from SWF.com than around here. Fortunately I am right near the border so I can make a run and "smuggle" some corals over the border!
Also I believe that some corals, especially some types of clams are illegal to have in Canada. For what reason I don't know!

Canada is much too dangerous for swf to be playing around in. I don't think it is wrong to have a healthy fear of Canadians.;)

My wife has sold some Persian Cats to people in Canada and if I remeber right there was a 48hour quarentine. And extra $$ to keep them for 2-days.

we have so much snow here I shovel it from my backyard to my front so it doesn't flood the backyard.
I think coldest it got was like -49 with windchill

My thoughts on shipping to our great frozen north (which is slowly thawing):
-After inquiring, all the stores I emailed that has a Live Arrival guarantee will not honour it at all.
-Over the last two years anything at customs will be held up to a week or more, not a couple days. It took me 8 weeks to receive one lousy order (sat at customs for 2) and the times vary according to the mood of the customs officials.
And quite frankly...why order from the US? By the time you get the exchange rate, taxes, duty, whatever else they feel like tacking onto the price is it really worth it in the end? You may find a great deal here and there like lighting. There's a great store out of Vancouver that has had my dry goods to me within 5 days and livestock within 2 (and I'm south of Calgary).
And on a personal reason, whenever I have tried to deal on the phone or online with a store in the US, as soon as they find out I'm trying to ship to Canada they treat me like I have two heads and don't understand english. I don't patronize anywhere with poor customer service in my own city and I have yet to find one store that is even acceptable.

here we go..I kind of expect this to be deleted. How they can consider a store competition for a country that isn't even on the shipping list is beyond me. If it's deleted, I have other ways :)
Edit:
A link is a Link.. If it is not allowed, It's not allowed. Nothing Personal..

P.S. If you knew it would get deleted, Why Post it?
