Why is my emerald crab gray?

My emerald crab was a dull green when I got him 4 months ago. Now he is crusty gray. What could be wrong?

Most likly he is getting ready to MOLT.This is when they shed thier old skin for a new skin.Kinda like a snake,but when your crab does it the molt(old skin) comes off in one piece that looks exactly like the crab..Many people mistake this molt for thier crab,and think it's dead.Then a couple days later the crab magically appears...
