why is my water surface green

My tank has been set up for allmost 3 months and I,ve been doing water changes every week . It seems like after three day,s I keep getting this green film on the water 40 gal sw 60lbs l.r. prisam protine skimmer 2 power heads.HELP

YES I AM USING TAP.I have 1-10k,1-50/50 and 1 blue. All flouecent.

maybe on to long about 8 hrs:maybe try 4 or5 hrs? what does ro and di stand for? maybe water type.

RO stands for reverse osmosis..not sure what the "DI" part stands for,but an ro/di is a filtering system,some are four or five stage or more.They basically take out all the bad things in your tap water.For instance the tap water going into my RO/DI has a rating of over 260 TDS{total dissolved solids}going in,after running through the ro/di it is at 0.

Do you have a hang-on back skimmer? I cut the top of a plastic bottle off and used the bottom part as a surface skimmer on the protien skimmer's pump. The cup is placed around the pump and the water from the surface flows in and gets filtered out. The surface of my tank is crystal clean.
