What flower said about water quality is right on. I have 15 fish in my 140g tank and feed heavily and all my soft corals grow like crazy. If I had sps they would never survive. Even LPS doesn't like it too much. You kind of have to chose what you like and what you want to grow. I like alot of fish so SPS wouldn't do to well in my tank.

Fish and corals have different needs, it could be something as simple as the temp or how well the skimmer works. Also, it's has been my experience that it's best to not stock to many fish. You can really pile in the corals but have just a few fish.

Fish poop = coral food. Take a look at some of the tanks of the month on other sites and see how there can be combinations of both, including SPS coral.
Just sayin....................

Don't get the wrong ideas here. SPS coral do need pristine water and no you do not have too much filtration. In fact on a 110 gallon tank that might not even be enough. SPS contrary to popular belief do feed though and they feed on the small particles that are present in the water. So again detritus, fish poop and other dissolved organic material are good for SPS coral too. Have a read here.
