why no PM's here?

Why is it that PM's are not available on this board?
I can use a buddy list, but that doesn't do me much good if I can't send PM's, IMHO?
Just wondering what the deali-o is.

If I remember correctly, they shut that feature off, because private messages defeat the purpose of having a public information board. They wanted issues/questions raised in a group forum.

Just an idea here - but if PM's were possible, I don't think people would use them to ignore others pleas for help, rather, I think they would enhance the community by enabling private conversations rather than public debate of a topic, and would help reduce the amount of OT discussions.
It would also allow people to exchange information with select people on the board without being forced to give out more personal info like email addy's and/or IM names and/or phone numbers.
Just a thought.
