I would image that most people are unaware of the care that these fish/inverts need to be given. True you don't need to know the science behind the water chemistry or even what the power of hydrogen measures or means, but compared to the typical cat, dog or fresh water fish, alot bigger effort has to be made as far as maintance is concerned. How many people you know researched the fact that dalmations are a tempmental dog and not very suited for children or that a labrador has a higher probablity of developing arthritis in their back hips especially, they don't, they know they like it and their child wants it. If there was a pet store selling dogs and cats that were kept in unsanitary conditions, not properly taken care of and just looked after enough to keep them alive until they could be sold people would be outraged and the humaine society would take actions to have them shut down. Why should these fish be any different, i would highly doubt they enjoy living in their own philth, that is why i believe marine fish should be left to dealers that know how to take care of these animals.
