I kinda have a problem with my chromis. Last week I noticed that 1 green chromis had red patches on his scales. I started to feed heavy garlic daily rather than every other day, but it just kept spreading until the whole fish looked as though he was decaying. I took him out right after I tossed him. Now I only have 2 chomis and 2 clowns.
Over the last few days I have noticed the mouth of another chromis slowly decaying. It almost looks like its mouth is falling off and its like a small red blotch. i have not added any fish to the tank in over a month its been 5 weeks and this started to happen a week ago with the chromis i tossed. All my levels are ok NItra 12.5 ppm niti 0 amon 0 KH 10 calcium 400. You see my inhabitants on the bottom.
WHAT DO I DO???

So this ailment only affects the chromis typically and not the clownfish? Is this correct? Should I treat all the fish or just the one that is sick? Remember that I have another chromis too but he is not showing any symptoms at all.

Since I was planning on getting a school pf chromis, I'd be interested in knowing exactly what this is myself.
Any further insights?

Terry,
Thank you for the info. I have despite my gf's objections and my resistance set up a 10g QT/hospital tank. I purchased that nitrofurazone which is under a differnent name, it was like fura something. Nonetheless I will have no choice but to treat this fish for about 10 days since I will be leaving for NYC on Monday. The hospital tank is set up, I did it last night. I used some crushed coral from my main tank and mixed it with some new stuff. I bought premixed saltwater from the store a heater and penguin filter for circulation. This thing should cycle in like a day or two hopefully it won't have to cycle since the water is premixed.
Anyway I will put the chromis in the QT today of towmorrow and medicate it. Let you know how things go, I have a friend feeding the fish while I am in NYC hopefully he doesnt kill them. Wish me luck.

Yes I have asked him to add the carbon filter media back into the penguin filter on Wednesday. Hopefully this will take care of the whole thing. I have noticed an improvement already after 10 hours. The cycling problem is nonexistent the parameters are all perfect I checked this morning before I added the medicine and the chromis. Frankly speaking the nitrates in the QT are lower than the main tank. about 5 in the QT and 12 in the main tank. I made sure to provide hiding places in the QT and put on a backround on the sides and the back to keep out the sunlight, since darkeness keeps stress down.
This seems to be working thanks Terry I will let you know how it all worked out after I get back from NYC. Hopefully none of the other fish come down with anything while I am away.

Well leaving for NYC towmorrow and the chromis after almost 48 hours looks incredibly better. Towmorrow morning before I leave I will put him back in the main tank to avoid any risks of overexposure. Although he was treated for only 2 and a half days I just don't want to risk any more. Thanks again Terry.
