If done properly with (small) 3 that are the same size and introduced at the same time you should be ok. Make sure you have plenty of rock, algea, and hiding spaces for them.
BUT YOU ARE GONNA GET IT FOR EVEN MENTIONING PUTTING 3 TANGS TOGETHER
"ENTER THE TANG POLICE" h* :joy:

No. chances for success are slim even if all three are small. As they mature and get bigger they will get aggressive. A Kole Tang would be okay ...a small yellow or purple could SURVIVE for a brief period in a four foot tank. They require at least 6 feet of swimming space. Also, as adilts three ADULT tangs in a 180 could explode into aggression one day.
I would never suggest placing three tangs in a 70 as they do not stay small for long...so then what?
Also, when do you know it is time to remove them to a suitable home? Once they are sick or stressed due to living in cramped quarters?...... it could be too late.
If you are not prepared to house the animals through adulthood or have a plan to move them...you should not do this.
Finally, tangs are big poopers...even small ones...too intorduce three at the same time could cause water parameter issues due to a bioload that cannot handle the increased wastes in such a short period...meaning all three could get sick and die...or your system can start a mini cycle leading to death. Yes, you can add so,e magic potions to try and boost your bio-filter but how do you know the bacteria is alive inside the bottle? Shelf life, inappropriate transport, etc can render this stuff ineffective.
Can you place three small tangs in a 70 at the same time? Yes but it COULD fail. Will they all get along and survive for any length of time...possibly but odds are against you.
What is you long-term or short-term plan for these animals? Do you want to keep them for years or months? Ask yourself these questions and arrive at you own conclusions based on research.
There are no absolutes in this hobby...but there are certain guidelines that if followed will increase the odds for success. If followed both you and your animals will be happier.
I am not saying never or can't...I am simply trying to help you succeed. I have tried what yor are asking...been in the hobby for 30 plus years and followed the advice of the lfs. If you so some research you will see that your y=system is not bif enough. You can either not make the mistke I made...or try it and see what happens. Outcome is predictable though.
You will get others that will tell you it is okay.
JMO and just trying to help.

Enough of the friggin "tang police" comments! Jeesh. Where is the rolleye smiley, where oh where???
Nothing like an actual review of the real issues. Why are there "tang police." What are the issues and general experience with trying to do this? Its not because people want to ruin your tank, its because experience says it is not likely to work well, and is not suitable. Is that crazy? Now some "tang police" are a bit overboard for sure, but there is some good intention there.
FWIW, 3 tangs would be FINE in an appropriately large tank. Personally I have no issues with 3 tangs together in a 150 or so...the tangs might have issues, but I wouldn't.
Thanks to Scubadoo for an informative answer on the actual likelihood of success in a small tank, which is basically the primary issue. I agree on the Kole tang.
I've had to call in my own artistic skills

many times hobbyists look to the short-term and give little if any thought to the long-term care. I certainly have made this mistake in the past.
The reason for the so-called tang police is becasue the requirements for these animals are often misunderstood. Even some websites simply have bad info as to the minimum requirements. They are selling smaller animals and post short-term requirements....but do not inform you of this. Or, they simply want your money...figuring most folks have 4 foot tanks or smaller. You simply do not know what motivates the misinformation...ie ignorance, wrekless with the truth...or intentioanlly misleading.

You are right I should have put a smiley face next to the tang police comment but 20 years experience in the hobby and trade have taught me many things and yes it is possible. Although your comments are warranted
It just seems that there are more people telling people they can't do this and they can't do that it really starts getting irritating. I have said it almost everytime I post you must do your own research and not just go by what is being said on an internet board.

I think so, I have had 3 tangs in a 75, I have had acctually 4, I have had a yellow tang, a purple tang a naso tang (sm of course) and a hippo tang all in the same tank (75gallons) with no problems whatsoever!
I do not think that it should be a problem with you! Enjoy reefing! :)
