Getting ready to introduce 100lb of live rock to a 150 tank. Will dechlorinizing my water hurt the live rock and bacteria in the Carib Sea 'live sand"? How would you proceed? :help:

you can mix the water now and declorinize your water and add salt in the tank but if sand is already in the tank id wait. I highly recamend using rodi water though

:hilarious speaking from experiance its worth its weight in gold. I ran my 46 for a year with tap water and after I switched within two weeks I saw a new tank

You might want to go to your county's web site where you should find a breakdown on what exactly is in your tap water. You might find that your tap water is vary pure.
Something that does not get mentioned a lot is that government standards for tap water are higher than that of bottled water and much more stringently tested.
For total control of what goes into your tank a RO/DI will be necessary and if you shop around should cost a couple hundred.
If it were me I would not let the unavailability of RO water keep me from setting up the tank. IMO the tank should remain FOWLR and vary lightly stocked for six month or so anyway. By that time you could afford a RO/DI filter simply by tossing your spare change into old salt bucket at the end of each day. No lottery win necessary. After this perform some good size water changes with your new RO/DI water and you are ready to start building your reef.

Not sure where you live, but down here in Fla,they have Portable water "windmills" in the parking lot of certain strip malls. The one I use is RO/DI,and ten other types of filtration going through the water. Filters are change everyday. 25 cents a gallon. I bring my 5 gal buckets with lids and fill em up. Got this tip from a local...hes been doing it for years.

You can get a good RO/DI system at a large number of places for under $150. You might save that much in dead animals over a year or two.
