Will Green Hair Algae kill my corals?

I have green hair algae creeping up and it's starting to take over a few rocks that have corals on them. Will the green hair algae smother the corals or will htey be fine.

WEll I had some grow ontop my green star polyps and smother them.....I would get it off...even if you have to by pulling it off
