Will He Survive?????

Yesterday i was at the fish store, and i bought a beautiful coral beauty (his fins are a flourescent purple on the edges). All was going great until i got home.
I floated him in my tank for about 20 minutes. Then i poured him into a small bucket so i could drip acclimate him. Well, when the first drop hit the water he freaked out and jumped out of the bucket onto the carpet!!!! He flopped around for about 10 seconds before i could catch him and put him back.
Well, we got the drip started and i put a cover over the bucket while i went to go get the heater. Got it, went to put it in and he jumped out again!!! Caught him and threw him back in while getting very angry and plugged in the heater and covered the top.
About 15 minutes later, it was time to take some water out, so, by this time very cautious, i barely cracked the lid an inch and a half to see if he was there and he flew out!!!! Flopped around before i threw him back in. Ok, by this time i was furious and i thought that he was gonna die ( $29 and not even in the tank!) and i was tired of touching him (he was kinda gross and his scales are sharp!)
I had the genious idea of putting the small bucket into a larger bucket so the water could just overflow and i wouldnt have to change out any water. So i got the bucket in there and put the lid on. About 2 maybe 3 minutes later I peak in and he had, again, jumped out and was in a corner of the empty larger bucket just sitting there, not moving. So i said, ive had it, this thing is crazy, so i grabbed the small bucket (now full of water which i spilled all over the carpet), picked the fish up and tossed him in the tank.
He floated around a couple seconds and then went behind some rocks. Today i went down to have a look, almost positive he would be dead, but lo and behold, there he was swimming around! He appeared to have a little white spot on him (not ick, just faded looking) but looked fine otherwise. He is still swimming around his cave.
My question is, do you guys think i am in the clear or should i still be cautious that he could die.

I'd still keep an eye on him, just to be safe. How long was he in the bag from the lfs?

I thought you are suppose to acclimate for at least one hour?? This site says 3+ hours for Coral Beauty. How's he doing?? I counted 4 times he jumped... let's hope fish have 9 lives!!!

Yes, correct, but JacknJill wasn't able to since the fish kept jumping.
Was that bucket used for anything else? (wondering if something was in the bucket)

Kim, i was trying to acclimate him correctly, but he just kept jumping out of the bucket and onto the carpet. i figured it was better to just put him in rather than him getting more and more stressed.
ive used the bucket for acclimating various things several times. i only use it for sw. it just sits on a shelf when i dont use it.
update:still doing fine. he was out and about and even prettier than i remember lol. he has a lot of personality. My other fish were very interested in him.

That is the funniest thing I've ever heard! The part where you said "I only opened it an inch and a half and he flew out" I just about squirted icewater out of my nose.

two words, fishy prozac :
na-na:
I have a bi-color blenny, that decided to hide in a piece of lr i was rearanging, and had taken out of the tank and put on a towel. I stepped back to look at what i was doing, and stepped right on him. I scooped him up and threw him back n, and he is fine. that was 6 mo ago.

Coral Beauties are very hardy fish, especially for angels. I have one myself. I never use the drip method for hearty fish as I think it is too slow and too streesfull for the fish. The opaque bucket, shallow water, and too many big changes in lighting. I float the closed bag for about 20 minutes, add about a quarter cup of tank water every five minutes or so till it's full. I dump out half the water and start over. The third time it fills, I let the fish out.
It sounds like it will be fine.
