Will I ever see my goby and pistol shrimp?

I'm still interested in the fact you had nitrite present, how long have you had your tank? have you added any liverock recently??
The tank is only 8 weeks old, and even though I haven't added any new liverock recently I did do a lot of re-aquascaping about a week ago so there was a small amount of ammonia after that. I'm assuming that's why there was a trace of nitrite (on it's way to becoming nitrate) but I didn't think it was enough to kill a fish, and so fast! Will do another complete water test today at lunch - not even sure what I'm looking for but it's all I can do to amuse myself right now. Certainly not going to add anything to the tank!

Could've been stress of transporting and acclimation to a new system with traces of ammonia and nitrite present. Thats what I'm betting on. I wouldn't blame yourself though, it happens.... Little changes in these tanks throw them way off, its rediculous.

Thanks for the comforting words. I'm hoping that's what it was but on the other hand I'm not sure how to prevent that in the future. In order to get a fish (or any livestock) from Point A to Point B there is going to have to be some stress on it. I acclimated so carefully and slowly and don't know what I could have done differently except maybe don't TOUCH the tank at all for a week before adding anything new. I can only assume my aquascaping (and some sand stirring) caused the trace ammonia and nitrite but geez, I had no idea it could kill at those levels! I guess when the fish is stressed it can't handle much of anything. Live and learn, and keep trying.
