can I put metal halide in my canopy or do I have to raise it up more I hope some one can help

7 inchs tall but it is 8 inchs off the water .I will have fans

i think with the fans you wont have to raise anything.does your light have a glass cover since is going to be close you dont want splashing water to blow up your bulb. I'm getting away with a ocean t5 1x250w 10k mh+2x24w actinic fixture on my 29g with no fans. But i dont have a closed canopy. light is only 6" 1/2 away from water surface(with glass cover protecting bulbs). light raises water temp from 79 to 82degrees (hottest).in a 10hr timeframe. by then is time for lights to go off.

What kind of MHs? HQI or mogul? For one of my tanks, I mounted the MHs on top of the canopy and cut a hole. No light is visible and it put the MHs another 6+ inches off the water.
