Will ordinary aragonite sand turn into LS?

Yes LR will seed your LS and make it "Live". In addition you can get detrivore kits from several places online which will add to the diversity of your LS which is always a good thing.

Always nice to see another hawk. Anyways, where would I get these detrivore kits? And when would I add it to the tank? Before, during, after cycle?

two places I have used are:
www.inlandaquatics.com
www.IPSF.com
Add the kit after the cycle but before the fish as you don't want to feed the fish an expensive snack. LR will have many of the same things as these kits have but it's still nice to get the kit for more diversity.

just wanted to note not all diversity is a good thing- you could get flatworms, parasitic copepods, various diseases among others- sorry to get technical- just know where it came from and teh condition before you put it in your tank

whitecap4u, i lived in Austin from 92 till last year. Have you been to Partners pet store in Round Rock? They were pretty good to me up there. They have an awsome display tank, it takes up nearly half their store. In Austin there was one at 183 and Duval that was real good, i forgot the name, its behind Rallys in that shopping center. Just thought I'd share my experiences with the lfs in Austin. good luck!

I have a friend that works at partner now, so that is cool. I think if I recall, thats a 500 gallon they have there, it's very cool. The one on duval is called gallery of pets. There is also aquatek on burnet, and pet connection in cedar park on 183. They are all decent shops. There are a couple more, but these are they ones I go to and trust for the most part.
