will the emporer400 suffice?

Im gona start a 55 gallon fish with live rock tank. will the emporer400 be able to handle the job? What if I also use an undergravel filter or reverse flow, would there be any conflict in using both?
Thanks for any advice.

i have a 65 with the 400. running for over a year no problems. looking to move up now that im getting into corals tho

I am new and that was what was suggested to me with my skilter 400 for my 75. I later well the other day was told the emperor is not really made for swf they said that it will work great for a long time then finally the wheel dumps all the waste etc that has been building up on the wheel dumps it into the tank and bam your fish are dead. Now this is from a shop that is the best LFS I have ever been in thousand gallon tanks huge rare fish it is the nicest cleanest most unreal shop I have been in EVER.
NOw then I am not sure if they are correct or if i misunderstood why it was bad ( thats possible im slow) but they suggest using something different and it was something they do not even carry and suggested craigs list or ---- for best prices on it. They even told me to come to SWF.COM for my fiji rock because they can not beat that price so they are not into just taking my money and sending me on my way. Take it for what its worth.

i have had great success using a emperor 400 on my 55 reef. so IMO, yes they do and will work just fine by them self. as far as filtration, that and 80-85 lbs of LR is all i have.
