so im getting ready to get my first fish. hard to decide on what fish i want.
but one thing is for sure i want to have a clown or 2. the 2 clown types i like are the true perc clowns and the "australian black and white" acording to one of my lfs or otherwise known as just the black and white.
i went to a fish store about an hour away and they had some amazing looking true percs and in one of there tanks they had a black and white in with some of the true percs, they seemed to get along just fine.
i have a 28 gallon nano and was wondeirng if i could have one of each i know there are no guarantees when it comes to how they will act to eachother but ultimatley i would like to have 1 of each if i can.

You can put a prec and an ocellaris together. If they breed some day they will have hybrids as they are different species. Are they captive bred or wild caught? If captive you can be reasonably sure of their age wc, no way of knowing. When at all possible go for cb, they are hardier, healthier and better suited to tank life.
When selecting your clowns you want to increase the chances that you don't get 2 females, they will fight and it could get brutal. I would try to get 2 juvinelles. If you cannot be sure when faced with a limited selection get one that is twice the size of the other. You could ask at the LFS before hand if you can bring one back to trade in if they don't get along, insurance policy. They should pair up easily without too much fighting.

cool thx for the reply,
i definalty want to get juvenile fish for me personally i want to be able to watch them grow and change, so my moto is the smaller the better to an extent.
my only fear is that if i get them to small my cleaner shrimp or somethign might try to clean the little fish or something and beat it up instead.
but thats a good point i didnt really ask if they were tank raised or not, but when i go there next time i will ask that question.
it might be a while before i get my clowns since i am being picky about thier markings lol, so im not in a hurry to get them.
my wife likes the orange ones better then the black becuase they are brighter, i like both the black and white and the true perc so i figured i would get one of each.

Being picky is good,
after all they can live for a long time, it is a big commitment. If you get fish you really love, it makes maintenance a labor of love. Good luck fish shopping
