I have my tank for a little over a year now. It is a 90 gallon fish only tank. I purchased it form my LFS they came over and plumbed it as well. The way it is set up now is that my overflow box is at the left of the tank about 5 inches from the corner. The water exits through a megaflow overflow to my sump which sits under my tank. The hose actually goes all the way across the length of the tank to the right to make it from the display tank to the sump. It first goes into a bio chamber, then into my Rio pump to the Nautilus Te skimmer. As the water makes its way back across going back left it goes through a mag pump through a Kent U.V sterilizer and back up to the tank. I think the way it should have been done is that if my sump were just turned around then the water would not go all the way across the length of the tank which is btw VERY VERY noisy, rather directly down into the sump since the bulkhead that it is plumbed into would now sit directly under the overflow box. I am posting a pic of my set up as it is now.
1) I want to turn the sump around and plumb a short PVC pipe with a ball valve between the overflow and the bulkhead that goes into the sump.
2) Remove my U.V. sterilizer and drill it into the stand directly opposite of where it is.
3) Have the water go into the sumps bio chamber then into the skimmer like it is now.
4) Instead of having a plastic hose come out of the top of the sump to my U.V. Sterilizer I would like to plumb it with PVC through the bulkhead that is on the side of my sump that is currently closed.
5) I want to slow down the flow from that mag pump to the U.V. sterilizer so the water can pass very slowly through the U.V. either using a ball valve or a new pump, if using a ball valve will damage the pump.
6) Then plumb a plastic hose from the other end of the U.V. to an external pump which will be connected to my return line in my overflow box.
7) There is also a glass cover available for my Oceanic Model 2 Reef Ready sump that I will purchase to cover the top to eliminate all of the noise.
8) I will have to get part of it cut by a glass place to fit the Nautilus skimmer through the top.
******I need to know exactly how to plumb, what to use; adapters, connectors, glue, pipes, hoses, pumps, valves and most of all comments & feed back.
I need all the help that I can get, if the project isn’t too expensive then I will do it this coming Sunday and post pics to keep you posted.
