Will This Work???

Would it be possible to turn the bioball chamber into a refugium? I am thinking that if I fill it with live rock and cheato, water will just pass through it quickly and the chamber wont even fill up. Will it work? If not any ideas on how I can tweak it to make it work?

Bump??? Any thoughts at all? The chamber I want to turn into a mini fuge really isnt that small. Eyeballing it looks about 1X2 feet.

Can you remove those two plates without doing any damage? If you can it could make a decent fuge, not large.

Yes it will work, I've seen this done. In the area above the grid, place some LR, in the area below, fill with macroalgae. Note that maintenance is a pain :) Place your lighting vertically along the side of the sump. The biggest problem is that it may not be very effective due to the small size.

Would it be possible to remove the grid completely and just make the entire a fuge with a skimmer, heaters, and pumps in it?

I'd be concerned that the heater could melt the sump, but I'm no expert on that by a longshot. My thoughts are that you likely are going to run out of room before you get anything in there that's going to make a big difference. You honestly sound enterprising, why not invest in a cheap fishtank and build your own?

I have plenty of room in the sump. Those pics only show about 1/4 of it. It extends almost all they way across the bottom of my stand to my 125 so I'd say its about 4 feet long.

Hmm, about how much standing water is in your sump, in terms of feet? Like is there 2 foot worth of standing water where you could house rock and macro?

The tank isnt set up yet but you can see the minimum water level and maximum on that sticker in the pics. The minimum water level marker is around 5-6 inches and the maximum is closer to 9-10 inches.
