Never be afraid to post. The only stupid question is the one that isn't asked! A UV sterilizer catches the ich in the "free floating stage" Unfortunately this is only about 10-20 seconds out of their life cycle. They host, drop off (quick drop as they are full at this point) then reproduce. The babies are eager for a host. You may catch some on the way up, but a UV sterilizer shoots across one point in the tank. The fish swim everywhere. The fish are re-infected before they even get to the UV line.

EXACTLY!!!!
QT EVERYTHING, corals, fish snails ect. It isn't just fish that can cary ich. Fish can be hosted, but anything else from the ocean can have dormant ich ride in on it.

:scared:, brings back memories of my first experiance of this hobby. yeah quarintine everyting! a uv would help but doesnt rid the tank of the ich just cathing them in the free floating stage. which means it also depends where u place it too. in the main tank is best, in the sump might not be good cuz iono if the ich even travel to the surface. helps make water clearer though!

Hm, sounds like something I have said before.

But yes, I agree with what the others have said. A UV will only kill what little ich floats through it. A quarantine tank is extremely important in this hobby, also.
