Sounds like you had a good time. Have you ever seen any of the footage of Willie at the Grand Ol' Opry when he was a far younger man?

I remember drinking with him at this bar down on 6th Street in Austin back in the 80's. We were in there partying, and we saw this old scruffy looking dude sitting at a back table by himself. One of the girls we were with felt sorry for him, and went over and offered him a beer. She came back with her jaw dropped, and said, "Guys. Do you know that old man back there is Willie Nelson?" We went, "Riiight." So the rest of us went back to talk to him, and sure enough it was Willie. He had us sit down with him and just shoot the crap for about an hour. Most down to earth guy I ever met.
Some of his best shows were at the Fourth of July Picnic at Lukenbach. He'd play for hours.

Really....I went to one a few years back in Dallas and was disappointed

well, I'm a big old fashioned when it comes to my music to begin with. And Willie has been my favorite since I started liking country music. Then I LOVE blues. So when you get a guy get up, with a harmonica, one drum, a base and a grand piano. Then he gets up and plays this crazy blues guitar, where he just kind plays it when he wants to, (forget timing) as long as he comes in somewhere around there. Then he just plays these crazy riffs and cord progressions to get to the different key notes. It was hearing these songs I love and know every note for the first time. Because they were completely different than I'd heard before, yet they where the same....

Billy Bobs is ok, but it is big business now. To many people who only where boots to the Livestock Show and Rodeo and the stockyards.

The only thing worse than listening to Willie sing is watching him sing

I am not a fan of his music but I think he is one hellaciously fine actor. Barbarosa was a killer movie. Remake of Stage Coach and one called Red Headed Stranger or something like that was good too.
Anyway the first time I ever heard of him was from my older brother during his turd kicker music phase back in the 70's. He had went to a concert and part way through ol Willie tells the audience "Sorry if I seem a little timid on stage but I really need to fart. Trouble is I took some Ex lax earlier and I am afraid I'll crap myself if I do". My brother's stories about that concert was the first I knew rednecks did drugs

Willie is the man! Down to earth as mentioned and one of the most giving people around.
Except when it comes to taxes, which all the rest of us seem obligated to do
