yea, braces for 10 years and i had to have glasses when I was 6. To top it all off, I was the fat kid in class. Needless to say my childhood was ... ahem ... awesome.
I brush my teeth regularly and take good care of them. I have weak teeth, it runs in the family as me mum has dentures now. The soda I drank was way too much. I had all the typical problems of soda, cavitites between teeth. I also have done research and the cement they used to put the braces on my teeth weakened the enamil of my teeth. So combine bad cement + all the soda = horrid teeth. At this point, I am looking forward to when they all fall out and I can get dentures.
And yea, me mum is pissed that she spent $ on braces just to have them fall out. BUT, if I remember correctly, due to her insurance she had at the time, she had to pay for 2 years of the care and the remaining 8 years was covered at no cost to her. That just might be why I had them for so long. There was no charge to me mum, the orthodontist was getting paid, who really wanted out of that money train?
Like I side...very sad story indeed. I agree that your dentist played a big part in your problems. He sounds like a butcher, knee on chest and all…However I have to disagree on "weak" teeth.
You see my mother watched her father and her younger sister who was a teen by the way, loose every tooth in their head, it ran in the family. My Mom didn't start taking care of her teeth until she was a teenager. After seeing what happened to her dad and sister she went nuts brushing and caring for her teeth. We kids copied my mom and we all have our teeth, I am one of five. She told us the story of my grandfather and aunt since we were little kids, to teach us to brush our teeth.
I can't even say milk played a role, I was an infant and hated milk, tossed my bottle away at 9 months I was told, and I still don't like it. When I got pregnant my calcium was so low I couldn't work because I was in pain in my bones (baby takes what baby needs) and to date I have problems with it and have to supplement calcium.
Good teeth are all in the care you take of them. Yes braces for 10 years would rot anyone’s enamel. The dentist had to put enamel on my mom’s teeth she literally brushed hers away. The dentist told my mom that if everyone took such care of their teeth he would be out of business.
So if you have children teach them they can break the cycle.
