I just wanted to share some pics of my top off system. Ugly, but does the job for the long vacations.:joy:
This is a pic of a selanoid(sp) that is hooked up to a timer. My 60 GPD RO/DI does about 11 GPD. So I set my timer for about 2 hours to compensate for the less than a gallon per day evaporation. It may need alittle adjustment from time to time.

This runs into my 10 gallon jug thats connected to the Kent float valve.
BTW, the first pic is closed until energized, hense the timer.

It's a Skinner valve from the Parker Hannifin Corp. Someone gave it to me so I'm not sure where to get one. Try HD stores or where they sell plumming supplies.
It's a 3-way N.C. (nomally closed).

without taking over dburr's thread and if he doesn't mind I'll post a picture of the one I use. A buddy who manages a HD got this one for me at a close out price. I've have not seen this model at HD but I have seen others like it. I think the price on the one below was 12.00. The price on the other units are around 20.00
If you'd like a better picture I can post one later on. This is not plugged into anything (battery operated) It screws into the end of the fucet and then the RODI unti screws on to it. Set the timmer and your off. My buddy uses one to top off his 360 gal reef.

oh that's interesting.. so you just figure out how often it needs to open and set the timer? So water goes through it to the ro/di then to the tank?

that's it......I use it to top off my 35 gal top off drum :notsure: Its no biggie if the drum overflows or goes down to low. It also has a manual setting that over rides the Auto setting. If the drums getting low or I need to make up some drinking water for the house or a batch of saltwater I just have to set it to amount of time I need and start it. I have two three way valves on my RODI unti. This way I can divert water away from the DI to make drinking water or away from the top off drum into another drum to make of a batch of saltwater.

Dan,
There's more then one way to skin a catfish. Your's is just as good, better yet you DIY'd it. I've posted pictures of my toy here many times but knowbody took to it. To be honest I don't think anybody had a clue what it was. Its probably because of my poor writting skills.

all i did was is get a float for my ro/di units bucket(30 gal rubbermaid) then add a float switch to my sump and put a mag 2.5 in the rubbermaid. the ro/di init has a shutoff when the float rises, the n when my sump lowers the mag kicks in and fills until the float switch stops it. its really simple.

Ahhh, yes, but your waste water runs when the float shuts off the RO water. I shut off the source water with this valve.
