Sup guys,
So I'm definitely a SW newb and new to the forum but I'm getting bored with the planted FW thing... I've got a AGA 20H tank (24"X12"x16") with a Nova Extreme T5HO (2x48 watts) FW bulbs, one 10*K and some kind of pink one (probably not SW useful)
So I'll need to upgrade the bulbs, what kind should I get?
As far as filtration goes I have (2)AC110 and one AC50. I know these can be modded into a refrigum (sp?) (I also don't know what those are for, even if they are needed/beneficial to a small tank)
Is RODI water the only way to go or can water from my tap suffice? (not really a deal breaker but does it make that much of a difference?)
I'll have to get a new heater, right now all I have is a pre-set Tetra heater (78*F). Any heater suggestions
I'll probably get some Karoline powerheads for more flow (I've got the AC110 running right now and it makes a nice flow).
I want to keep corals, maybe a shrimp or two... Is it possible to keep the two together? Along with other CUC members? If so, which ones?
I've got a pretty nice LFS with like 10,000 gallons or something worth of tanks so there's a nice selection for supplies and what not...
Not sure what I miss, sorry for the rambling but FW isn't cutting it any more lmao...
Please let me know what you guys think.
Thanks,
Brian

a 10K daylight NEW and meant for salt water and a 420nm true actinic. Everyone has a brand they prefer, I like geismann, ati and wavepoint T5 bulbs

(I also don't know what those are for, even if they are needed/beneficial to a small tank) Refugium. They add extra water and filtration to the tank. It's also a place to breed copepods which some fish need in their diets. Well, that's the short and simple explanation. They're not necessary, btu they do help. This being said, I know nothing about what you have listed in this section so hopefully someone else can help you out.

Is RODI water the only way to go or can water from my tap suffice? (not really a deal breaker but does it make that much of a difference?) It makes a huge difference. Copper is deadly to SW inverts (corals, snails, etc) and is in most tap water. I highly recommend and RO/DI unit, it's one of the best investments you can make if you plan to keep a SW reef tank.

I'll probably get some Karoline powerheads for more flow (I've got the AC110 running right now and it makes a nice flow). Can't go wrong with Koralia powerheads, I'm hoping this is what you meant. a K1 or K2 would be good. You're going to need more flow in a reef tank than in a FW tank. A LOT more flow

I want to keep corals, maybe a shrimp or two... Is it possible to keep the two together? Along with other CUC members? If so, which ones? Absolutely, you just can't have Camel Shrimp, they eat corals. As for a CUC:
Skunk Cleaner Shrimp, 5 or so Nassarius Snails, 5 or so Trochus snails and 5 Cerith Snails as well as some hermits if you choose.

I've got a pretty nice LFS with like 10,000 gallons or something worth of tanks so there's a nice selection for supplies and what not...
Not sure what I miss, sorry for the rambling but FW isn't cutting it any more lmao...

Hope that helps a little. I'm sure others will go far more in depth.

I'm no real help... but I personally think that your freshwater tank looks pretty nice :)

Nice, honestly I was looking exactly for what you gave me. I'll do the research and what not to find out more. Thank you for responding.

Thanks, it has grown in some since that pic and there are less fish.
