I was told that sometimes when you buy live rock there are worms that are on there. I was told not to touch them and get them out of the tank. Is this true?
I agree with all of the above. I have experienced reactions to touching bristle worms and it is not fun. My fingers swell, become irritated/itchy, little blisters form and during the final stages the skin peels off. I recommend wearing gloves when doing tank maintenance.

I treat the worms as beneficial until proven otherwise. Don't touch them with bare fingers though.
Agreed...unless you know it's a "baddie", they're usually a good part of your "freebie" CUC. If you happen to touch a BW and you get poked, stick the affected area in vinegar for a few mins, and the spines will dissolve.
It took me 15 years before I got nailed, but I did get hit a few years ago while breaking down a tank for transport:
Ummm Greg how old were you when YOU did the nailing

Vinegar will work on most but some species of Polychaete have Silicate based bristles and vinegar will be ineffective. It works really well for most though.
