Progress is being made. But it's slow. Still approximately 23,000 homes in the springfield area without power. There have been a few deaths from various causes. Carbon monoxide poisoning being one of them. there a reprts of fires. This morning a person who was bed ridden (sp?) was rescued from a burning home. The thaw should begin tomorrow as is predicted above 32 degrees temperatues are expected. Clean up crews including the gaurd have made some good progress.
. However, Beth has it about right, hurricane is still what it looks like. There predicting months for the debris clean up. Trees, poles and lines are still snapping. You never know when ones gonna come down. there are several factors that hamper the recovery process on restoring power. Ice covered roofs, limbs to climb over or cut out, debris all over the place. I still cant seem to believe the massive amounts of limbs and cables. I cannot even answer my cell phone because of the sheer numbers of calls. The voices are all the same, desperate, determined and hopeful. Thumbs up to the city of springfield for the efforts they've made to relieve the red tape process for us independant electricians trying to help relieve the situation. I cant say they could have done a better job.
My electrical supply house has really been excellent in their efforts also. Their selling materials without power themselves. Shipping material in from anywhere they can.Electrical materials are again begining to run out. Reports of 10 generators stolen from R.R. crossings. :scared: Crews are coming from 4 surrounding states and also from states as far away as S. Carolina. All in all though I believe we are going to see a success story here, no crying, whining and blaming yet, at least I've not seen it. However the forecast has another 2 to 5 inches of snow in the forecast for this weekend.
