would adding carbon be a good or bad choice.....

What aould be your reasoning in adding the carbon? There really isn't any harm in adding activated carbon to your filtration system. Most filtration systems have some form off carbon. It seems that you have more than adequate filtration in place. In looking at your post the thing that I have a question about is that you state that your aquarium is cycled in 3 weeks. Normally a cycle takes about 6 weeks. What are your water parameters? Also I would suggest adding some more live rock. You just want to make sure that it is cured before adding to your tank since you already have fish in the tank. Live rock will cause an ammonia spike that could possibly kiil your fish. You may want to add a little more to your cleanup crew.

'Carbon' - the word gets used kinda loosely - is a good thing.
I used to use the Chemi-pure product, it is very good, but expensive.
Your money goes further by using something like 'Black Diamond,' which is also very good.
If you didn't know, after rinsing, shove in some plain panty hose or a filter bag and put in your sump.
Carbon polishes the water quite well and removes yellowing.

How much is your LFS want for the rock. I've seen several places online that you can purchase for around $5 lb. I just purchased some from <a href="http://www.gulf-view.com" target="_blank">www.gulf-view.com</a> and it was great quality. I got the more expensive stuff, but well worth the price. He includes shipping costs in the price. I placed the order in the morning and it arrived the next day.
