Okay friends ....
I've successfully moved all my corals over from a 30 gallon long tank to my 75 reef tank.
Now I have a 30 long awaiting to be whatever I choose it to be.
I completely tore it down - and have since set it up again with 4" DSB.
I'm looking for some ideas from you guys and gals on what to do with it.
I want something fairly easy to take care of, no corals, no anemones, no seahorses and nothing that requires intense lighting.
Something out of the ordinary or unusual would be fun ... in other words, not your common tank with a clown or two.
Maybe 1 or 2 VERY uncommon interesting fish.
30 long
4" DSB
20 lbs LR
Wet/dry sump - bioballs removed
Dual overflows - Dual return pumps
CPR SR2 Venturi Driven Protein Skimmer
CSL 36" x 6" x 4" 1x96w Smarlite
Tank's been set up now for about 3 months - 1 blue damsel - water conditions close to ideal.
Any unusual suggestions ?

hmmmm, well let's see... What say you hook a bitchin' chiller up to it, I have never seen a lobster without rubberbands on it's claws. (Do you think there is something basically wrong with a guy that can stand at the lobster tank in the grocery store and stare at 'em for like fifteen minutes? Do you think that so many years of keeping tanks just draws me to vessels filled with water?....lol)
Seriously though broomer.... a friend of mine had a 55 gallon tank set up with just sand a rock and this guy was totally nuts over shrimp. Have you ever seen a tank with like a hundred shrimp in it???? Holy sh!t, I musta spent weeks worth of times staring at all that motion, definitely was a sight to see!
Have fun with it buddy and DO let us know what you end up doing!

make a invert only tank and have lots of cool shrimp to it like camel and pepperment and definantly a CBS
or
make the tank have about 4 schools of fish in it or something
or
make it a eel , shark , and stingray tank (wich i would do because i love sharks and eels and stingrays)

LOL - dunno glazer,
Do you find yourself mesmerized by any water filled vessel ? or just glass and acrylic saltwater filled ones :p
Does a barrel of rainwater cause instant hypnosis ?
When you see a shot glass of vodka - are you thrown into an uncontrollable state of being spellbound ?
Does the clerk at the grocery store ever say to you as you're eyes are fixed upon these disarmed, rubberband clawed lobsters - move along buddy, your starting to freak out the other customers :D
Anyways ..... A shrimp tank sounds different - but might remind me little too much like a tub full of fishing bait <img src="graemlins//eek.gif" border="0" alt="[eek]" />
I'll keep thinking though .......
Any other suggestions ???

I would go for seahorses and pipe fish. There are also some corals that are compatable with them. If not I'd put in a wartskin angler, colored angler or a

I was going to set my other 55 up with a bunch of mangrove trees and some inverts. Wasn't sure of the fish but I thought it would be neat. I got some lights to suspend from the ceiling and was ready to do it but now I don't have the room for the tank. I had wanted to put in a purple lobster or a pistol shrimp/goby pair with a bunch of non-reef safe critters. My lfs is using wire in the branches of thier mangrove trees to get that bonsai affect going. Its kind of neat looking. It may be something to try with pipefish and seehorses.

have you ever though about breeding marine fish?
with your weathy knowlegde and experience you could done such task.
How about try to breed Black Cap basslet?
Does not need extensive lighting.
Black cap still consider are a rare species.
They are uncommon fish in the LFS.
A pair of Black cap will love that 30 G tank. :)
I have not seen any research or experience about about Black Cap on the intenet/books.
If some one seen something about them please let me know.
The first challange we will come across is "How can we get a pair of Black Cap?"
just a though

a tank full of shrimp would be funny. a pair of CBS and some skunks and a lot of peppermint shrimp maybe a scarlet or 2. it would be different.
my next tank id eas is going to be a school of clown fishies and a couple of big carpets. it ought to be cool looking.

I am down for the breeding tank. Sell fish back for $$$. This might lead to "Broomer's Breeding International". A nice way to make side money to support the hobby and keep from deleting the seas.

What about some cold water theme. Like a North East salt marsh (Silversides, sticklebacks, and various stars and crabs) or a Kelp Forest (Minus the sharks, seals, and otters of course! ;) ).

I say cepholapods... though not necessarily a blue ring. It wouldn't require hardly any light, just massive filtration.
I'm in just the opposite position you are in. I just tore down my 75g reef and moved most of the stuff to a new 44g reef. The 75 is up and running with a crap, chromis and 5" DSB. I'd love to go with cepholapods in the 75, but from what I hear it's tough to get healthy specimens due to the fact that they don't ship well. I'd love to see 2-4 cuttlefish in there, maybe a few soft corals to add some color.

i'd go with the stone fish mine is so ugly that it's actually cute and a real conversation piece and once in awhile an guess will look at it and say why do you have an rock in a tank and then it would move and give them quite a surprise.

Makes me wish I'd win the lottery, get a dozen new tanks and try all your suggestions !
Really good ideas folks - still debating in my mind, and I will say you all have given me much more to think about - ideas I had not even thought about ;)
Thanks !!

inverts tanks are fun. if you don't like just having shrimp. trying all inverts. our 25gl was just inverts: stars, shrimp, crabs, snails, hermits, urkin (sp). they don't require much work or light just through in some shrimp for them to eat once in a while.
