if she blames God, then she believes in God, which means she's not an atheist.

Where are you getting that from?
You must discriminate against homosexually oriented people.

A person's religious beliefs, or lack thereof, should have ABSOLUTELY nothing to do with whether they get hired for a job unless, as has already been stated, that job was of a religious nature.

I am an atheist, and if some opts not to hire me due to my beliefs, they will find themselves with a nice lawsuit. Religious beliefs are irrelevant, I could care less how someone believes. We are all atheists, some of just go one god further. Well, that's not mine, it's Richard Dawkin's, but the point is the same.

This is statistics from a survey done by the University of Minnesota that says atheists are the most distrusted minority in America. No one can deny that not everyone in America is accepting or trusting of gays. Petjunkie is not saying that her personally is ranking anybody.

There are many reasons people are atheists. I'm an atheists because I was raised an atheists and don't understand the concept of faith or feel I have any proof of God's existance. My roomate grew up Catholic and started asking questions that the church avoided answering in highschool so she did a lot of "soul searching" and came to the conclusing by the time she was in college that there was not such thing a God. Some people read books by Richard Dawkins and Sam Harris, understand the logic and come to be atheists. Some people have traumatic experiences that make them beleive God was never there.

It wasn't as much the logic of Dawkins for me (and don't forget James Randi and the $1M challenge), but the lack of any discernible logic in the church.

Thank you for the clarification!
There is no valid reason why anyone should be 'rating' certain groups of people above or below other groups of people against any kind of scale or ranking. Overgeneralizations turn into prejudices and prejudices turn into discrimination.
People are people. (No singing Tears for Fears)
Period.

I totally agree!
and don't forget James Randi
Looks like I have a lot of reading to do! I've read The End of Faith by Sam Harris, and I got a Dawkin's bookf for Christmas (thanks dad!), but I haven't checked out James Randi and I'm in the middle of another book I've forgetten the name at the moment.
I really like the idea of the $1 million too. Along the same line, I saw a program on TLC about a girl who could detect disease w/in the body and it seemed totally convincing, but when the put her to the test it turned out she just basically inferred based on the info she told her and if she wasn't given clues, she couldnt find the disease.

what is the "$1 million challenge"? I assume that it's "$1 million to prove the existence of God", something along those lines? by the same token, one could offer $1 million to prove that God does NOT exist, and there would be no one that could win it.

The $1 million dollar challenge offers a million dollars to anyone who can give evidence of supernatural power, occult power, psychic power, etc. Basically a proof of a miracle. So far, no one has been able to prove anthing. It isn't the proof of God, just anything supernatural.

Still rolling from this one..Anyways, I personally would not hire them..They could have super qualifications, but I personally would not respect them and would not want them associated with a business I was a part of

I would hire them if they were the best qualified and then show them they may need to reconsider. Hopefully, I wouldn't even have to use words to show them!

Im going to try and keep quiet on this one even though i have alot to say lol I dont want this thread to get closed. I will just say that no, I would not take into account somebody's religion. I would hope that anybody powerful enough to even be in that position would not be so ignorant.

I look at it as these people will be representing me..How will it reflect on me as the person who sends them out to speak with people that know how I feel..

team2jndd I don't want this thread to get closed either, but so far we have had an extremely civil discussion. I'm sure you could join in w/o going hog crazy...just take a deep breath before you start typing. That's what I have to do sometimes, but I haven't seen anything in this thread I didn't expect to hear, except there are more atheists on this site than I expected.
